I am really digging my iPhone as my go-to snapshot camera, and I particularly like the Hipstamatic app. But Hipstamatic is a bit limiting (obviously, that's the point). The thing I like about it is, you pick your lens, you pick your film, and that's your camera. No post-processing, no second guessing--you have already made your choices.

I d/l'ed a couple of other apps--Lo-mob and CameraBag--in the hope of a similar experience, but it isn't the same--these ask you to choose your effects after the fact. I've got Photoshop for that--what I want is film and other emulations/effects that you choose ahead of time and which are automatically applied. You know, like throwing Tri-X in the M2 and hitting the street. The choice is made, and what you're gonna get is pictures that look like Tri-X. There's something liberating about this, as you all know, and it is also liberating with Hipstamatic.

So are there other apps, with different effects, that use this model?

I've tried several apps too and came to the same conclusion. Hipstamatic is the only one I found, beside the iphone camera itself, that does not require after-the-fact process/choices. It's not a bad app but the iphone camera is also quite useable.

I'd like an app that doesn't ask me to make my choices after taking the photo. A you-get-what-you-get system, like Hipstamatic. It can be liberating and fun.

There's an app called "Lenses" which is pretty fun.

Hipstimatic is pretty unique in its approach. I haven't found another photo app that behaves similarly. Most apps apply effects after the fact as you have pointed out. In some ways that adds some flexibility but in truth Hipstimatic is more like using a film camera in that you choose your "film" and "lens" before you take the shot.

There is a free app called Pudding camera (odd name I think the app is Korean) that uses the same type of film/camera interface as hipstamatic. It's fun, especially for free.

Its Korean inscrutability is rather appealing. Will d/l!

Fun app.. little slow and it's not translated, so you have to figure everything out. Good underground alternative for hipstamatic, which everybody uses and recognizes these days..
