It's a long holiday weekend here in Sunny greater Toronto and I am headed back to Kennsington Market this afternoon to do some shooting with my KievIII, Canonet and Nikon F. So...anyone going out to play in their corner of the world?

i'm about ready to head to whyte avenue for breakfast.
should be a small group today, also long weekend and folk festivals have started etc.
hope to shoot at the market, on whyte also.
tomorrow is heritage festival, lots of diverse cultures/food/costumes but very crowded.
have 35 and 50 ready to go.

I'm heading down to the harbour area in Port Credit to shoot my first-ever roll of IR: Kodak HIE. I'll be using a #25 red filter.
Gene
I just dropped off a roll taken around Toronto with a Bessa-R and a Jupiter-8, and another roll that includes lame pictures of leaves, flowers and dogs and people at the "dog park", taken with a Zorki 3M with a Jupiter-12 (because I've never had results with the J-12 that were at all satisfying) and with a Jupiter-3.
For the rest of the weekend? My Retina IIa is loaded.

I don't know where you 'Toronto area types' have been hiding but the largest Caribana event in North America is on here this weekend! About 100,000 people have been coming in since Thursday.
I'm shootin' it.
ciao baby!
Jan
Caribana, eh?
Correction: Half of the Bessa-R roll was with J-8, the rest with Industar-61 l/d.

I had planned to shoot a Civil War re-enactment but it looks like rain, so I guess I'll just stay home and do nothing as far as taking pictures is concerned. Too far to drive to watch people standing in the rain.

Anywhere along the parade route eh..
http://www.caribana.com/schedule.html
Go along Lakeshore.. it's packed though... so be prepared if you do go down there.
As for me.. I have another "portfolio" shoot to do today.. with my (D)SLR equipment.. I'll be bringing the bessa along to fire off a few "candid" B&W shots as well :)
Cheers

There is biker rally in downtown Ocala, FL today. Well, actually they were having a thing yesterday but I am hoping there are some people still hanging around. Will be heading down there in a couple of hours. Happy snaps guys/gals!

I plan to do Caribana next year with 100asa colour Fuji Superia or Reala, I have stuff on later this afternoon and I really don't want to deal with the logistics of getting to (and getting out of) the Lakeshore and parking somewhere near College St.

About to leave for a family reunion. It's at a small local park with a pond and beach. Since it's mostly people I don't know (wife's side) I should be reasonably uninhibited. Tmax 400 for the Speed Graphic, Fuji Reala in the Moskva 5 (with mask in since my lab will print 6x6 but not 6x9) and Plus-X in the Karat 36 with a nice new to me yellow filter. Should be a big pile of fun, especially if there is any focusing fluid to be found... :D

in an hour I'll be heading to Oshkosh, WI for the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association).. during this week every year, the small county airport becomes the busiest airport in the world... every type of plane from ultralights to WW2 fighters and bombers, modern military jets and tons of stunt pilots
I plan on going through at least 4 rolls of film.. half Tri-x and half 400UC

I need to work this weekend :( I have to cook a private dinner so I *MAY* take my SLR so I can do some close focusing on food and stuff like that.
Oh.. and Bill,
I'll be in Kensington tomorrow afternoon - there's some sort of "water festival" going on.. I plan on bringing a raincoat for the Bessa ;)

I'll be at the Asian Festival in Little Rock, shooting the Canon 7s with CV 35/2.5. I should bring out the Rapid Omega to test it more, including testing how people react to it. Food, martial arts demos and dance performances, but both cameras have fairly fresh rolls of black and white in them already. Gotta shot fast and reload 400UC.
I was expecting a whole lot of the few Asians in Arkansas will be here, but I don't know now. I was actually in one of the Asian groceries when my girlfriend called to remind me, and the store looked like any other weekend. (Saturday is the big Asian shopping day here, as all the imported/specialty groceries are trucked in from Texas on Friday night). But who knows, the tagline for the festival is “There Is No Other Event Quite Like It.” :p

If the weather holds, I plan to shoot a couple rolls of Velvia through my newly acquired Konica C35 on the back streets of the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny neighborhoods (N.O.). I'm not waiting to replace the seals so I 'm putting black electrical tape around the film door. Roll change while on the street should be interesting.

More seriously, right now (sat. 18:10 CET)i am preparing a big bucket of goulash. SOme friends will come over in an hour, we will feast and drink and then go to play some bowling. I hope to finish the second roll in my Kiev - first roll with the Sonnar on it! I've begun the roll with shooting some colleagues thursday evening, playing table tennis. It was quite fun (we all were a bit tipsy from a heavy dosis of 10% vol.alc. belgian beer, just before dinner). Curious to see if any of the shots will be in focus.
Anyway, back to the bowling, i might take along my super ikonta too, loaded w delta3200...just to have a "backup" :)
Still nothing for sunday...

Summer Festival is in full swing here. Also, the entire Lowertown area is now an artist haven with more than 40 in place and more coming from across the country to take advantage of the opportunity to restore old homes in that area at favorable costs. [This won big awards this year in city planning!]. Plan to take Nikon 5400 and either my IIIF with 35 Russian biogon or my reconditioned Zorki 2S with new Industar 52mm. You'all come. [Wicked coffee shop in Lowertown!]

Summer Festival is in full swing here.
JohneYou just reminded me: it's August on Monday, and there's nothing quite like Edinburgh in August - all the various Festivals, with carnivals, parades, street parties, street performers... and that's just the outdoors stuff.
I have a plan to go through rather a lot of film. :D
We have "Jazz in the Valley" all this weekend, with bands and individual performers playing all over town. And the Mac User Group is having its summer picnic tomorrow. I will wander about and see what appears. :)

What a blast that will be ... one of my dreams to attend that one. And I'm partial to the pipes, so attending the tattoo would be great for me.
I have to work around the yard this weekend. We have a house painter coming as early as Monday, and I have to clear all the non-planned vegetation (i.e, weeds) along the perimeter. This morning I dealt with freakin' ivy vines at the front, and tomorrow will be a bit more of that at one back corner and some nondescript stuff at the other. (While working on this today I did listen to the NHL draft on radio to keep my mind occupied. Go Leafs Go!)
However, next weekend my wife and I are headed to T.O. to go to Taste of The Danforth, the huge food festival on Toronto's east side. We're taking the ferry over, so there will be lots of opportunities for shooting. I'll be travelling light... just a 35SP and an OM with 28 and maybe the 21/2. If anyone in T.O. wants to meet up for a bit or beverage, just PM me.

I was out and about in Enid testing a new old lens. I just received a CZJ Pancolar 50 and was testing it against a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm. I also carried the Flektogon 25 and 35 and a 100mm for the Exakta, not a RF kind of day.
:o
I ended up just using my R9 today so nothing with the range finders. Did not have any sunlight as well. Most of today saw Florida with the liquid sunshine thing going on.

Well, it's not a holiday weekend here, but I and a friend are going to some rural areas around here just to shoot what needs to be shot. :)
d'oh!
So I went to that Asian festival, disappointing at first b.c it was indoors and kinda thin, but I found some good people to shoot. Took a roll of Portra 400 UC on the Rapid Omega -- some lil' kids martial arts (too cute), big peoples' martial arts (pretty flashy), and a hula hoop contest (with the cutest lil' girl and a lovely elderly woman in colorful outfits). Went to change the back -- what? I never took the darkslide out?! :bang:
Hopefully I got some stuff in black and white.

Stet,
Perhaps misery loves company...we had the Northwest skateboard finals here today so I decided to go. Parked the scoot just in time to hear the announcer say that was the last competitor and they would begin the awards ceremony momentarily :bang: :). So I got shots of the awards...
ouch.

mayube you should stay there, Honu.
Well, i'm back from last night bowling. It was a so-called "disco bowling" with lotsa projected eighties-nineties (mostly) disco clips on the walls and very loud music (not really to my liking). Also, the many seminaked girls in the clips distracted our attention and the two girls that were there with us were abusing this fact. We guys lost badly.
And the light level was so low, there was no chance for the Kiev and iso400. But it was fun.
Yesterday I shot on a Techno Parade in the afternoon and on a festival at our main pub location later.
Hm, I don't have an english name for it, it is a roughly 500 yard long backyard/deadend street with lots of pubs and a club. On April 31st and the last Saturday in Juli they close the entrance and every pub has at least a DJ and there is an open air stage in the back. This year they had a band from Rio de Janeiro.

Yeah, everything flashing, projected clips right above the puppets on the wall, very low continuous light...
Maybe i should have tried with some looong exposure times, just for the fun...
Well, this was a very interesting weekend for shooting. I and a friend went originally to take some afternoon and setting sun shots at a recreation area, and we ended up shooting not only the lake, but an abandoned country store, some old abandoned cars, a burned down building that you could still smell, a collapsed barn, and a real live steam locomotive all ready to go, I think I actually captured the steam hissing out of the machinery. I just picked them up and I'll post some tomorrow, but I'm too tired to read them in and post them tonite.
Oh, this is also the bake-off between my "real cameras" and his Kodak Easy Share point and shoot digital, taking many of the same exact shots.
And ... I tried to create that "3D" effect in one shot, I can't find the thread, but I'll post that tomorrow.
I had some fun shooting at the computer club summer picnic today. I kinda wimped out and only took the little Canon ELPH Jr (in professional black finish!) with its fixed 26mm f/2.8 lens that shoots APS film. I had some Kodak chromogenic B&W in it.
The club president was shooting away with his Motorola cell phone, though I know he has a better but older Olympus digital. Convenience, I guess, in both our cases.
He noticed what I was shooting, so I handed him the Canon. He looked it over and asked the golden quesiton, "How many pixels does it have?" I couldn't help laughing. I showed him the extra roll of APS film I'd brought, and he wasn't the only one there to be amazed it was a film camera.

It was 105 at my house today, so mostly it was my kids and my in-laws in the pool with the Praktica and a roll of high def. Yesterday, same thing, only with the GSN and a roll of B/W. I wish it would cool off, this summer is gonna be HARSH!
Well, we are back from Taste of the Danforth, and it was a wonderful trip. The ride on the Cat (the "fast ferry" betwee Rochester and Toronto) was very nice, though I can't say it is as "awesome" as some seem to imply. It's like a smooth, comfortable train ride. For two people (sans voiture) it's more expensive than driving. For some the frustration of the QEW and other highways means the ferry is a bargain, but I've never had a big issue with driving to/from T.O., so I have to say for me that's not a big issue. Speed of crossing is an illusion. 2-1/2 hours. BUT... by the time you get your ticket (even if you've resrved online or on the phone, that' sjust a reservation, you still have to go through ticketing, which means a line), security, waiting to board, customs/'immigration at the other end, etc., the time savings may not be there. Only if you're in a long traffic jam at a bridge (esp. on a holiday weekend) is the time savings a reality. Anyway, on to other, far more important things.
I really overestimated the amount of film I would need for snapping. I consumed one roll of APX 100 and part of a role of Elitechrome 100. Partly that's a result of not really spending an entire day at the festival. We got hot and tired. We wer eaccompanied by friends from
Brampton, so it was a social time as well, and that means photography takes a back seat. Also, since I haven't done "street photography" for awhile, getting into the menta. swing of things, took a while.
However, the 35SP was very nice to handle. Because of crowd noise, music, etc., there were several times when I thought something was wrong... I couldn't hear the shutter! With the OM that wasn't a question!
Our hotel room overlooked the back of Maple Leaf Gardens, so I took a few shots at various times of day, including early morning which was a good test of the SP's flare resistance.
At one point during the day a young-ish man passed me with an RD or RC around his neck. I didn't catch which model, and he was gone before Ihad a chance to stop him. If it was someone from here on RFF, speak up!
Don't know when I'll get the film processed and scanned, but I'll try and get to it soon.

I spent yesterday wandering around Millennium Park in downtown Chicago with a rather attractive friend.. assuming I learned how to read my Gossen meter properly, I hope to have at least a few good shots from the 3 rolls of Scala slide film that I used up.. the only problem is that I don't have a slide scanner... yet

Hey, is "The Bean" uncovered and on display again? The last they told me it was covered and they were working on it. If so did you get some pics of if? Did you get arrested when trying to photograph it? <semi grin> I'm going to be going there in a couple months and I was wondering how it's coming along. If it's on display I'll try again to get confronted shooting it. :) :)
OBTW, the avatar I'm currently using here is a rather strange self-portrait of me in the reflection of "The Bean" blown up to extreme as I was seeing what the film scanner would do at maximum resolution. You can see the film grain clearly, as well as almost see I'm using the Olympus and that it was kind of a breezy Bad Hair Day<tm>. :(
As to what I shot this weekend, I tried out my new (to me) Sigma 18mm lens, with some shots of the bright blue ironwork at the local baseball stadium, then a railway bridge I like to shoot (I better watch doing that, the TLA is probably watching me), and then an abandoned building by the tracks. I'm gonna take this to the good indie lab so I won't have to clean crud off of the negatives to scan them. :)

nope, the Bean is still covered.. at least most of it.. there's maybe a quarter of it still visible, and yeah I shot about 5 shots of the crowd admiring it.. but it would have been so much nicer if it had been fully accessible

I was there too, Saturday afternoon till evening. Shooting with the Oly XA and Leica IIIa. I was in the middle of loading the Leica when I saw the guy with the RD/RC... unless you it was you with the SP?
Did you see the guy with the Nikon's? A black F around the neck and another one over the shoulder + a large camera bag.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully it will be all or more uncovered by October. If there's at least a shiny surface, I'm sure I can do something with it. :) I'll probably wander over there during a break in the action to see how it's coming. Thanks. :)

It's been a hot, sticky weekend in Southwestern Michigan. Lot's of yard work and field mowing got done, took all day Saturday. Sunday, the wife and I decided to take it easy, lounge around and enjoy each other's company - didn't even think about cameras!
I just happened to look out the bay window in the kitchen tonight and saw the sun going down, all orange and red and yellow with some cloud formations starting to come in. Grabbed the Bessa with the I-61 and loaded some Fuji 400 Superia in it and headed outside.
I hope some of them come out!
