Brian,

Your notes on disassembly and reassembly of the 5cm Collapsible Sonnar were very useful. However, you didn't mention your take on applying new grease. I also looked at the instructions for refurbishing Kiev lenses on the Kiev Survival Site - which appear to show a lot of grease.

Any suggestions on where to grease, where not to grease, how much, and your personal preferences for specific kinds of grease??

On the Collapsible Sonnar and Contax mount lenses- I usually do not regrease, unless the aperture action is way too loose. I use a very small amount of vacuum pump grease for it.

On J-3 and J-8 helicals, I use some inexpensive white Lithium grease.

Works well. If the helical has a lot of slop in it, such as a 1956 ZOMZ J-3 that I did recently, I use the thick vacuum pump grease.

Now, if they had a picture of a Lens on that bottle, that product would sell like Hot Cakes!
