Hi guys,

I bought a litre of ID-11 in powder and a litre of ilford rapid fixer.
What i wanted to ask is how many times can i use the same developer and what is its life expectancy? Same question about the fixer.

Thanx!

For best results you should use a working solution of ID-11 once, then discard.

A liter of Rapid fix at 1:4 dilution will properly fix about 17 rolls (80 square inches) of film.

I'm new at this as well, I got pointed in the direction of Ilford's website: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/products/default.asp

For each of their products, they have really detailed PDFs showing all kinds of times, dilutions, amount of reuse (and time compensation to add for each roll etc.). Really useful. Here's the one for ID11 and other powder film developers: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/download.asp?n=480&f=200621612182416.pdf

FWIW, my ID-11 stock solution lasts at least 6 months in closed, full-to-the-brim dark bottles. I use 1:1 dilution and discard the 1:1 after use.

I use mainly the ilford rapid fixer.

When I mix a 1:4, i usually mx for a total fixer solution of 600ml, this is to cater 1 roll, 2 concurent rolls and for the 120 format. When i fix, i fix on the total 600ml.

Each 600ml fixer solution i can safely reuse 10 rolls of fixing. I have ever gotten to 15 rolls but somewhere there it gets a bit weak, and the negatives will turn out milky.

To be on the safe side, I usually practice putting a film leader into a fresh fixer and time it. And then after every few fixes, i compare a new film leader test against the first test. (see roger and frances' website on this topic) Note that different film will have different clearning time, for me: Tri-x clears in about 30-45 secs, Acros 100 is about 15-20 seconds.

Your mileage will vary because of things like water quality, temperature etc.

hope this helps

According to Ilford, see link in one of the previous posts, 1 liter of ID-11 stock can develop 10 135 or 120 films (page 7)

On page 9, storage life is stated.
