View Full Version : Film Factory Pictures
Wanted.
Has anyone of us ever seen a film factory from inside?
I'm just curious. It would be interesting to see how it is done.

There's not a lot to see as it's all done in pitch darkness and ultra-clean conditions i.e. no tourists. How much dandruff do you want in your film? But I've seen 3 paper-coating lines (Ilford, Kentmere, Sterling) which are quite similar in many ways.
Cheers,
Roger
I was in the kodak coating and processing plants years ag. You really don't see much.

OK, you don't see much but you see something. I'm interested in the mundabe bits. How/when are the sprocket holes created. Is there a guy with a hole puncher punching holes in the darkness? How do they apply the different layers. How is the marks in the side of the film strip exposed into it? ...
I agree berci. Would be cool to see a film factory from inside.
We spend so much time talking about film properties that they almost get magic. I sometimes forget it's a piece of plastic inside that sealed canister.
Do you think AGFA (are they alive?) would consider letting Mr. Putz in for the full analyze? ;)
Visited a manufacturer of LP and CD machines. That was intresting to see. All about plastic moulding I would say.
