Hi Tom,

This may or may not be up your alley, but you seem the kind of practical person who would know how to approach this kind of question.

I have the guts of a thomas socium safelight that I used for many years as an architectural photographer. I changed careers ten years ago and canibalized it to use for interference testing of optical flats or other matched optical surfaces (I grind telescope optics as a hobby).

I'm setting up a darkroom for the firsst time in ten years, and will put a large (16x16) safe-light box about 4 feet above my multi-purpose bench that will serve for both telescope making and photo printing. The box will have the thomas bulb inside, and will have white plex on the top and bottom - when printing, a baffel insert will cut off light from going throrugh the bottom plex, and when using for optical testing, will cut off the top plex.

When I bought the safelight new from Adolph Gasser in San Francisco, it had in internal OC type filter for VC printing, and an external color printing filter. What I need is a relatively cheap lighting-type acetate filter (Lee?) that will provide appropriate cut-off for VC printing. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Douglas
