The Studebaker Gran Turismo was introduced in 1962 and ran a couple of years. (The Avanti came out in 63). Styling was done by a fellow named Brook Stevens. Nice images.

The Avanti came out in 63.

My father bought an Avanti new in '63. I drove it for many years. Had a Paxton blower under the hood and went pretty well. Raymond Loewy designed the Avanti, and I wish that I still had it.

Cheers...

I can remember in the late mid-40s when I was just a tyke, and the popular myth about Studebaker was that you could drive them in either direction, from the front or back; two sets of steering and pedals. Not by the Gran Tourismo's time of course.

I must be getting old. Is it raining or is that just drool? :D :D

They were kind of push-me-pull-you looking, weren't they. One of their earlier models was called the "Dictator". They had to abandon that name when the war came along.

Beautiful - calls to mind the Buick Riviera, crossed with that iconic French coupe the Facel Vega.

Speaking of France made me think of these, taken in Paris last summer.
