Greetings!
I just picked up a near mint condition GT at my local thrift store for $10.00.
I am a photography novice, having only owned only the mindless point and shoot's in the past. I have replaced the light seals, thanks to a very helpful web site. I found a battery through another site. (We would probably still be in the dark ages w/o the web). I've shot my first roll of film. But I have no over/under lights. The battery test works fine. My outside photos were fantastic. My "shadow" shots and interior shots were dim, as to be expected. (I don't have a flash yet.) Does the lack of lights indicate that the electrical part isn't working? I can't tell a dramatic difference in shutter speed by going through the f stops. And by the way, any one know where I can get a flash attachment? It's great fun reading this forum. I enjoy people with a passion. I'm real tired of the "Walmart" mentality that is sucking the vitality out of so much of society. Sorry, I didn't intend to get into social commentary. RFiel

Sounds like you need to check the pad of death. The contacts in the lens may need attention also.

I have seen people metioning the 'pad of death' a few times in this fourm. I am new to Yashica so I have no idea what it is, can someone give me some details about it?

I received by 35 GT 2 days ago, all i konw is the shutter is working but I am still waiting for the battery from 'yashica-guy' to arrive.

I hope i will not need to visit the pad of death !

If you're really in a hurry, go to a drug store, hardware store etc and get a Duracel PX32A. It is a six-volt battery and works fine in the GT.

Coincidentally, I just bought a gsx from a similar source a few days ago and I need to try it with a battery. The PX32A works, huh? Does it fit or do you need a spring-spacer?
Also I've been wondering. I compared the rangefinger base length against my Canon and it didn't seem any greater; so why is the Yashica so oversized?

Ah so there is NO battery inside - the lights will not work without a battery, evidently. Moreover, the shutter of the electro series are...electronic:) so they also don't work w/o batteries. I mean, they do work but only at one speed:1/500 s. That's why your outdoor shots are okay on print film, but indoor are too dim.

You might have a perfect GT there. Don't do anything before you try it w a battery.
You can use it knowing that the sh speed is fixed at 1/500 and using sunny-16 or an external meter.

poptart: Do you mean gsn or gx? gsx does not exist...
and the two are different. The gsn needs a spring and some spacing around the px32A. The gx does not, if i'm not mistaken. The voltage is good for both of them.

I was referring to the GT when I said the PX32A fits and works. I don't know if it works in other any Electros or not.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, it's a gsn. Late nights on the range.
