...your second Kiev?

(Background info: I spotted a deal on a Kiev 2A, meterless, from 1955, with a Jupi-12; looking quite used but said to bel working good except the self timer, and 1.5 y ago it was serviced "in Kiev by a factory technician". With leather case. ASking 50 euro for it. And i'm very tempted, although i have a Kiev 4 already, with 50/2 and 85/2.)

You want one? Isn't that enough?

Well, you don't have a 35 yet.

You of course say that you will resell the body, or use it in a trade, or use it as a door stop if it doesn't work. You wouldn't want to the papers on your desk to blow away in windy Netherlands right? Without a self timer you can say that it is a therapy tool to cure your habit of taking self portraits (you may have to smash a couple mirrors to pull this on off).

How am I doing?

Yeah, i want it... But i hardly use the first Kiev! :(
There should be a law forbidding a person having more than one camera.
OK, maybe 2 should be allowed...

Rover, you should be a sales guy. (Are you?) Windy Netherlands, LOL!

Reselling?? You are joking, right? I just passed on a very good offer of a Minolta AF kit. Only ONE item would have really interested me, but the rest were so good (better than the stuff I have), that I am sure I would never have sold it! And it was e800.

how about buying it and giving it to me? :)
that way, you won't feel guilty of having 2 Kievs.
i'll be the one suffering in FSU RF Hell for you.

Even if you volunteer, I would not have the heart to sacrifice you for athe cause, popitz... Thanks anyway!

Is spending the 50 Euros going to leave you hurting for anything important? If not that seems like an OK price for the J-12(not sure what the exchange rate is).
The other wayto look at this: If you pass on this one, how much time are you going to spend missing it and/or looking for another one? Time that could be put to better use--like finding a really good J-9 to go with it :D .
Plus, if it is working well, you'd then have a camera for COLOR and B&W...
Rob.

Rob... I already HAVE a J-9 :D
But you are right about colour and BW
i could look again like THIS (http://photo.net/shared/portrait.tcl?user_id=574418) , just with two Kievs
I could be the Crrrrazy Rrrussian Photogrrrapher of the city
I would attract all the crows and the dogs would bark at me
All the guys sitting at the bars would tell to their dear love:"See i'm still okay! Look at HIM!"
Mothers could scare their naughty children with me
Oh what a temptation! What a diabolic temptation!

AND, You might be able to get the camera in time for the 1 year anniversary of that shot :D
Plus the "bricks" are smaller if not any lighter...
I am actually getting a second Kiev for my self, so I'm not going to be the voice of restraint here :D
My reasoing is:
1-I like them.
2-I have some "extra" money.
3-I want a second camera to have a second lens on--as you know they are interchangeable-- BUT I want to have one body for 50mm and a second for 35 or 90mm(haven't decided which yet)
4-it is much quicker to pick up another camera than to change lenses.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Well, for me a second body (with a different focal length lens mounted) would be quite convenient when shooting protests. It would also help the usual problem with film ending right at the moment of interesting action. :)

You need to have two bodies so you can have B&W loaded in one and color in the other. At least that's the excuss I use on my wife. I like having a back-up body for all my systems. I have 2 FEDs (a 3b and a 2d, which needs worked on as soon as I find a 2d parts body), 2 AF Nikons, 2 manual Konica SLRs, even 2 Bronica SQa. You never know when a body will malfunction.

There's an old saying - one is to use, two is a spare. Three - you're a collector.

You're right Pherdi, having 2 Kievs is a very VERY bad thing.

That's why I have 3 :D

Fat chance that's gonna get an Amen in this crowd, but me? I couldn't agree with you more, Pherdo. In fact, I would personally volunteer to sacrifice my time to be the Camera Cop committed to tracking down and arresting the greedy vermin that would dare hoard more than one shooter. I would immediately confiscate the illegal contriband and hold it without hope of ever being returned to it's rightful owner..... uh....... I mean...... those rascalian criminals!!

"Honey, where's my tin badge and Red Rider BB gun?!!" Okay guys, please PM me your addresses and a list of all possibly illegal photo takers in your possession.

I'll help you out Pherdi... sounds like you need a J12. I'll split the package with you -- and you can send me the Kiev 2A. How does that sound? ;)

To have three lenses and only ONE body? I'm not that crazy LOL

In fact i dunno why i want it. I don't really want a 35mm. Does not even come with an external finder. And if it would, i don't like separate finder/rf. I think it's just the Kiev lust that's working in me.

Okay, I had to break away there for a minute because... the postman just brought me my SECOND Zorki 4. So, Pherdinand my man, I can only tell you that all it took to justify the second Zorki 4 for me was engraved lettering, strap lugs and a good price. It came with a J8, my second and FOURTH 50mm lens. So, no, I didn't NEED any of it. But man, I sure like it.

A good price is not hard for me to justify. I only struggle with paying TOO much for something I want TOO much.

My second Kiev cost me a roll (or 2) of film... so did my 3rd. Both needed a bit of work, but they're good users now. I even have 3 different 50's for them, a J8, Helios-103 and a CZJ Sonnar F2 along with the J9, J11 and J12 and the Univ Finder.

The Kiev 2A sounds like a great deal.

i have it the other way around, my 3 Kiev bodies fighting for one lens (J-12).

oh and pherdi, it's definitely Kiev lust at work.

Why can't you have one (or two, or three) for just looking at?
In nederlands: gewoon voor de heb............:) (sorry for talking dutch)

Pherdinand
07-07-2005, 03:49
Yeah, another Kiev is just a 'hebbedingetje' (a very funny word for things that are just good to have, without any purpose, at least that's how i understand it)
