Does anyone have any experience scanning 6 X 17 transparencies? Is there a film scanner that can handle this size? If not, what flatbed scanner would you recommend?
Imacon probably makes a scanner that can handle that size. However, a common solution is a scanner like the minolta scan multi pro which can scan up to 6x9. Simply do 2 scans then stich them together with PS. Many people take this approach to the xpan format with a 35mm scanner.
The Nikon 8000 and 9000 scanners can do it, but only in two frames of 6x9 because the stepper motor only has 9 cm of movement. I'd recommend buying the rotating glass neg holder as well - about another 300 dollars.
Best,
Helen
Find someone/somewhere with a 8x10 scanner.
The only photographer I know who scans his 6x17, sends his film upto Singapore for a high-res drum scan.
Or find the meanest flatbed scanner and scan them like a document. That's how I use to scan my 4x5s and 8x10s.
...or like the others said, two scans and a stich.
Stu :)
