58th Maine Lobster Festival announces Photo Contest

ROCKLAND (July 1): The 2005 Maine Lobster Festival Photography Contest will feature entries in the following categories :

a. People of Coastal Maine

b. Maine Lobster Festival

c. Maine Landscapes - Trees, Clouds, Floral, Fauna

d. Black and White - any Maine Subject

e. Coasts of Maine

f. Professional - any Maine Subject

g. Young Photographers = Pre - School Age - any Maine Subject

h. Young Photographers = Elementary Age - any Maine Subject

i. Young Photographers = Middle School Age - any Maine Subject

j. Young Photographers = High School Age - any Maine Subject

k. Digital - any Maine Subject

l. Mixed Media - any Maine Subject

m. Maine Animals

The photographer will mount and shrink wrap each photograph on heavy duty mat board before submitting the photo to the contest. Each submission will have the photographer's name, address, phone number, a title if you have one, and your category on the back of the matted /shrink wrapped photo. Each photo entry will have their own hangar attached to the back before submitting it into the contest. No more than 3 entries per photographer, no mats larger than 17 X 20 will be accepted, and no names on the front of the mat or the photo.

Your matted /shrink wrapped ready to hang photos may be dropped off at the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber of Commerce until the deadline Sunday, July 31, by 5:PM.

Plaques and certificates will be awarded in each category , and the winners' names will be listed in the local press following the Festival. There will be additional awards this year , Best of Show and Peoples' Choice. All photos will be displayed in the Fine Arts Tent beginning Wednesday, August 3 and ending Sunday evening after the Awards Ceremony. Presentations of the Awards will begin at 4:PM in the Fine Arts Tent and the artists photos may be picked up after the presentations have been made. The picture of the crab in "Sherman's Lagoon" with a camera popped in my head when I read the subject :D.

ps. "Sherman's Lagoon" is a cartoon strip in most newspapers.

A crab ... or lobster, or some NB/NS scallops, oysters or anyother shellfish POPPED into my mouth is what came to my mind! Add some good seyval blanc or fine Champagne and you'll need at least a 15mm lens to capture the smile on my face!
