Accommodation in Cairo

I'm heading to Cairo for 10 days later this month and would appreciate some help with accommodation. I've checked the usual hotel websites but would like to have information about good, clean hostels, bed & breakfasts or self-catering apartments to rent. Budget is max USD100 per day.

I'm interested in the downtown/Islamic Cairo and Zamalek areas. Any help would be appreciated.
