View Full Version : RF Cleaning
What do yall use as a cleaning solution on your RF window. I just got a Yashica 35CC in, and the window is a little hazy, I can see through it well enough but I know it could use a cleaning from the inside.
I have used Windex (the old fashioned one with ammonia, not the newer formulation with vinegar) or Ethyl alcohol. Sometimes one will work better than the other. I haven't had a problem with dissolving the silvering, but I do worry about scratching or rubbing off the silvering.
Not sure of this specific situation, but for general cleaning of delicate parts I have found isopropyl alcohol to be very effective. Also leaves no residue. Here we can get it from the pharmacy (that's a chemist in UK). You should apply it to a Q-tip or lens tissue, then gently to the item to be cleaned.
I use a Little Kodak Lens Cleaning Fluid; apply it using a Q-Tip or Lens Cleaning paper; breath on it to keep it from drying to quickly, then come in with a clean piece of lens cleaning paper. This is for clear surfaces, lenses, flat glass and such. I never to this on semi-silvered glass (beam-splitter) or the mirror. If these latter two are DISASTERS of CLARITY I breath on them and clean them extremely gently with Qtips or Kodak lens paper. I have done this on my Retina cameras, Canonets, Hi-Matics, and at least 20 different RF cameras in the collection. Every one of my Kodak Retinas required cleaning. The Yashica GT came out quite well, and was a real Fog before the cleaning. Good Luck!
Just use windex and q-tips inside VF but don't disturb the glass surface where the framelinses, etc are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
