View Full Version : Where were you when the M9 was announced?

CLE-RF

Yep, I know, it's only gonna be announced in a few hours and has not been yet.

Therefore:

Until it has been announced, where will you be when it does get revealed?
Once it has been announced, where were you? This is sort of a 'moon landing day' or 'Kennedy got shot day' idea.

I'll start off myself: on 1500 hrs CET today (which is 0900 EST), I will be at work, just ending my day of teaching Computer Sciences, last hour to an entry-grade High School class.

I'll likely be doing something. I don't teach Wednesdays and don't have a job that day, so I'll likely be out shooting film. No I won't tune in. It's a camera not a Mars landing.

I got an invitation, but I never predict the future.

Apple will be far more interesting, we know the M9 is going to be there, but Steve on stage?

Probably at work... but what consequence can a $9000-camera have in my life? I'm not likely to get one, not even used...

But, just to humor you, I'll be probably working. :)

Bet you one of your black-bodied Canon's that Steve won't show tomorrow.

He'll save his appearance for the Mac tablet release, next year.

I remember where I was when JFK was assignated.

I remember watching the first Lunar landing on TV.

I remember watching the Shuttle Challenger explode on launch (live, not on tv)

I remember watching the aftermath of the first plane flying in the World Trade Center.

But I will have to say the announcement of the M9 escapes me.

that would be 7 a.m. my time, when i usually turn my computer on, after my shower.

i check out my favourite sites, shut off the computer, put the dogs in their room and head off for work.

yes, i am curious about the new leicas but they will not likely impact my world very much, ya know except for these dumb ass threads...;)

Just talked with your wife, and I convinced her that it is your turn to get up early and walk the dogs. And take out the trash and get her breakfast.

Edit: Just talked with Roland's wife as well. I'll make wake-up calls to both of you around 4:00 AM.

As for the M9, it's going to be like dpreview around here for awhile, just like when the M8 was announced. Yay.

I'll be at the Time Warner building, seeing if other show up for the announcement (won't be inside since I don't have an invite, ubless someone's able to comp me at the last second). If you see me, walk up and give the secret RFf phrase (which I just made up): Where were you when the Leitz went out? :D

Why is the topic in the past tense?

Which Kennedy, JFK or RFK?

At 8:00am CDT (9:00am EDT) tomorrow I may be randomly surfing the web, or I may be watching a webcast or I may be actually out shooting photos.

I'm with you- I was barely two when JFK got it, but remember the rest quite clearly. When the M10 lands on Mars I'll remember where I was.

Who knows? I might be at eating breakfast, taking a shower, at work, or doing something else.

I wonder why you asked this question. I can remember where I was when I heard JFK was assassinated, and where I was in 1986 when the Challenger exploded, but who REALLY needs to know where they were when every overpriced toy is announced for sale?

I can't even tell you where I was the first time I got layed. Sure, it was in the backseat of my 1966 Mercury, but even *I* don't care or remember where the heck I was parked...

At home working on the photos from my Canon. In all seriousness this camera looks great but I cringe at the possible price. I wouldn't mind selling around $3k for it and use it with a 35mm.

9 a.m.? Probably sitting in the can, not really caring about this monumental, momentous event.

Some of you people need to grow up and get out into the sunlight. It's just a camera.

Sorry to be so mean ... sort of.

Although his assignations were were numerous, I do not know where I was when he was having any of them.

Well, my in-person appearance might be nipped in the bud by a gnarly work schedule (to wit: I'm still working as I write this :bang:). I've got at least another hour to go; I'm not going to be a happy camper on less than five hours' sleep.

I'll see how I'm feeling when I wake up (if I manage to wake up on time), and feel up to dragging myself to TW.

I got my M8 from Adorama when I traded in a bunch of Canon cameras and lenses to help finance the purchase.

This time I'll probably grab mine from PhotoVillage once they have adequate stock. That'll probably be in about 7 months time.

Same here. Threads like this is what stops me from reading RFF.

Well, I didn't launch the thread because I consider the M9 a religious experience. I'm likely not to get one, out of my league financially.

But, the replies provide a nice insight in what people (and amongst them some whose views and thoughts we read on a daily basis) are doing at a given time.

It's just fun to read what others will be doing at the same time I'm wrapping up my day of teaching.

Where was I? Oh, yes, I almost forgot! I was reading an article on Michael Jackson with interesting quotes from the King of Pop made in the wake of Diana's untimely death. At the time I picked up the article I was half way through watching footage of the moon landing, with 'Titanic' theme tune on in the background. Just a normal day, really.
