the 'wireless' part is exactly that - it's an antena at either end of where the wire should be. so first off you need a wireless router that has the ability to send that information through the air. then you need a wireless reciever at your computer to pick them up. i don't know if your computer has the recieving capability built in but THIS (http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-WGR614-Wireless-G-Router/dp/B00008SCFL/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249650109&sr=8-1) is what i use at the phone plug with no fuss or bother. and the one i got came with a USB reciever to plug in to the computer at the other end. although as i say if your computer is wireless compatible anyway the router alone will do the trick nicely. the link is there on that page for the reciever aswell - it looks like a little silver USB memory stick with a cap

I'd recommend an Apple Airport Express (save a few bucks by getting a used one off ebay.) The software setup with Apple wireless routers is simple compared to other brands, great if you are tech challenged. ;)

We have cable, not DSL, and we just have the wireless box (forget which brand, blue, got it at Ne. Furn. Mart) plugged in where you would normally plug in a single PC.

Do I just connect to my current cable modem from Cox? Sorry if dumb question . :)

SCRATCH THAT!! i see that the airport is a wireless ADAPTER - it should connect to your modem where the computer would normally go

this from the apple website:

Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort Express. Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and Mac OS X v10.2.7 or later or Windows XP or Windows Vista.
AirPort Express can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network.(NOTE: ISP is your Internet Service Provider)

I'll have to check with Cox cable somehow to see if its compatible

just ring your service provider and ask them. don't let them talk you into upgrading your service to make it compatible - just get the netgear unit.

do u think the netgear will work with MAc?

I don't see why not, your computer will just pick it up, there should be mac install instructions with it

EDIT: the full technical details on that amazon page say: Hardware Platform: PC, Mac, Unix

so yes :D that includes you ;)
