Meter sticking

My meter sticks at the top when turned on. If I tap the camera it starts to work. Does anyone know a way to fix this other than send it out for repair?

I remember reading that there's a small foam pad in there that the needle rests on when off ... it eventually degrades into a sticky powdery mess and causes this problem!

Depending on your confidence with cameras I'd be sending it out for repair if it was mine. :)
