View Full Version : Canon 85 on a CLE focusing problem

Yesterday, I put my new 85/1.8 Canon on my CLE w/ a CV 28/90 adapter but had a problem focusing. I could not see any split patch and the patch was a clear color at any distance, so portrait focusing was impossible at approx. 4 feet. I've had no problem w/ shorter focal lengths on this camera. Is this a camera base length issue or something else? If so, should I use the CLE with max 50mm lenses?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Bill

May have something to do with the shape of the cam. Could be that the cam is like a tongue and does not align with the R/F's cam follower.

Thanks for the advice, but that's not the problem. I had already checked that. The tab on the lens does align with the cam follower on my Canon P (w/o the adapter, of course). Maybe I didn't properly align the red spot on the adapter w/ the tongue when I mounted the lens on the CLE?

Could it be that the lens is physically too big for the camera, ie. in front of the rf window?

I don't think a 85/1.8 should block the rf window. My 50/1.2 doesn't...

Bill, have you tried with other adapters?

That the cam aligns with the Canon P's cam follower does not mean that the same thing happens on the CLE: it only shows that the lens is good. With M adapters there is no aligning to be done: you just screw them on until they can be turned no more. I'd suggest that you look at what's going on from the back. If I remember right, the entire back of the CLE slides off. Before that, you need to answer Antti's question.
