View Full Version : is this a fake?
Serial # is 48484 which doesn't make sense per my references.
But, I'm not a Leica scholar. Can anyone confirm if it's a fake?
The lens is marked Sonnar [edit: oops, make that Summar].
I don't know what that thing is attached to the front [edit: I know what it is, just not what it's doing on a Leica].
Thanks

Not a fake, that "thing attached to the front" is an after-market flash sync.

No, it's not a fake, but the serial number is in the Leica 1 range. Interesting.
^ Yes, that's what has me confused.
And the lens is marked Summar, not Sonnar, which is correct.

Maybe converted from a Leica 1.

Yes, Summar. My error.
It seems to be a Leica I converted to IId at Wetzlar.

Nice find.
^ Thanks.
This is how I found it at an estate sale this morning with the
price I paid for it.

A conversion, rather common.

according to the serial number it is an leica I from 1930!
it has been converted into a leica II. it is uncommon that is now in chrom. it actually should be black, anyway it looks like an origianal.
i'll give you 10 bucks, OK? :D

Great find- it does happen. I picked up a Leica III and a IIIa with lenses at an antique store, a "little" more than what you paid.
I sent them to Youxin Ye for a CLA. Youxin replaced the beamsplitter in one, and put both in top working condition.
No not on appearances anyway. The common fakes made in the old Soviet Union stand out like "dogs b#lls" when you know what to look for and this exhibits none of the known indicia.
