View Full Version : FIKUS - can it be used on 35mm Elmar ?

I just picked-up a very nice "FIKUS" extensible lens hood from KEH.
The silver barrel is marked with registration lines for :
" Elmar 5 cm
9 cm
13,5 cm "
I think I once read somewhere that with the hood completely collapsed, the FIKUS can also be used on the 3,5 cm Elmar ? ( Or would the FIKUS cause vignetting ?)
Can anyone confirm this ?
Thanks !

Look a little closer you'll see that very close to the base is another line without a number for the 35mm Elmar.
I've used it on mine without any trouble.

Rick,
Thanks for the speedy confirmation !
I just took a closer look at my FIKUS... I know there must be several variations of FIKUS, mine has no ID markings (that are obvious to me) except as follows:
Lens-mount clamp(black): E.Leitz Wetzlar Germany
Inner Sleeve (satin chrome exterior, ridged flat-black interior):
--------- 13,5
--------- 9
cm
Elmar --------- 5 (this is the 1 st engraved marking)
Outer Sleeve: no markings, exterior semi-gloss black,
interior flat-black with ridges. Outer lip knurled, with filter-threads inside.
If I completely collapse the hood, the outer sleeve butts-up against the boss for the lens clamp, and no satin-silver / markings show. So, I was kind of figuring that this would be the "setting" for 35mm... ;).
So, looks like I finally have an all-purpose lens hood for all my "1st-generation" LTM lenses !

There are FIKUS with an engraved mark for the 35mm Elmar. Works fine in my experience. (But I wouldn't try this trick on a Summaron -- larger front element.)
FIKUS works fine on Summar 50mm as well.
Definitely the core of a "travel light" kit.

John,
Do the Summarons have the later style front-end, similar to the f:2.8 Elmar 5cm ?
( Has the groove to catch the lugs of aclip-on shade ?)

The 35/3.5 Summaron came first in a smaller size using A36 clamp-on filters (and perhaps 34mm threaded ones), and later in a larger size using E39 threaded filters. The E39 ones have a subtle catch for a snap-on hood.
What's "bigger" about the Summaron is the size of the front element compared to the Elmar 35/3.5. That's why you can't squeeze a FIKUS on it, it will vignette.
Note also that the FLQOO hood for the Elmar 35/3.5 is deeper than the FOOKH hood for the Summaron or Elmar 35/3.5 lens. I expect that a FLQOO would vignette on a Summaron.
