I've just aquired a llla S/N 199450 which has a cone shaped cup around the shutter release button, it's in chrome and can be screwed on and off, it replaces the usual collar. Is it to stop accidental release of the button?
Is this a Leitz or third party product?
It has no makers name on it.

It's for attaching a cable release.

I'm not so sure the inside of the cup isn't threaded.

Might have been some type of 'soft' release?

....sounds like a SOREI I think that`s the Leitz code for the pre-war Soft Release? (edit: I have codes mixed up - easy to do with all this LEITX stuff! ~ Thx Vince!

Does it look like the thing on the attached picture? If so, it is for preventing accidental shutter button pressing.

I just got a black III today and it has one of those instead of the standard release collar.

BTW, a SOORE refers to a Summitar lens. It could possibly be a SOREI - but that one is defined as a "flexible" release for cameras up to a Leica IIIc. Don't know how they define "flexible".

Okay - did a bit more research, and I think it might be some aftermarket accessory made to look like a SOREI.

Here are real SOREI's (Lot 289 at the bottom of the page):
