Could you really accurately focus a 50 1.1 on a Leica IIIF?

I'd guess $2500.

Would be interesting lens to play with. Out of my budget, for sure. Anyone here have one that they use and can show some photos?

Oh... I reckon it will fetch about $3000.

So, does the new Nokton mean prices for fast lenses go up or down?
My reflexive answer would be down...but there is much I don't know.

I guess $2900

Well, that's interesting you ask. Because: everybody has assumed prices will drop. Since that's the obvious response when large amounts of similar gear hit the market.

But I'd say they'll only drop temporarily: once many have bought the less-expensive Voigtlander lens, an increasing number of people will want to distinguish from the crowd by shooting exotic stuff like the Nocti, the Zunow, the M-Hexanon etc.

And: if Cosina decides to end production at some time (as they have done now with the 50mm f1.5 Nokton!), prices will go up for all fast lenses, including the f1.1 Nokton.

Just my two cents worth, this is. Any other POV welcome, let's make this the Great-Predictions thread ;)

I will aim high for collectability.
My guess: $4000 ==>if bought by collector

edit: maybe $1750? ==> if bought by "greedy" shop owner or by poor user.

I'll guess $1 more than the highest here, and play the Price is Right.

This is a screw mount lens and will fit the Leica screw mount cameras, and other screw mount cameras that take Leica screw mount lenses.

screwy description.

$2001.

i will go with raid about 4k+ these do not come up very often and there is always someone who covets such a fast lens, more likely a collector, not a user.

Wiping marks on the rear element? Isn't the condition of the rear element what haves the greatest effect on IQ?

Well, all in all it's still got 12 hours to end, and so far no one of you guys has dropped out, since the price hasn't budget in a day.

But as someone pointed out in another thread, it's the auctions the last seconds that separate the boys from the men, or the fools from the wise!

However, I'm betting the afore mentioned outside, unconnected collector will emerge on this auction.

I did not mind my $30 Nikon M with 5cm f1.4 being beaten up. The $15 Leica III with Summar was in much better condition, but no cards. I did not mind that either. Takes great pictures. Collecting cameras does not need to be so expensive, just wanting them "Vault Condition" can get expensive.

I walked into an antique store this year and picked up a Leica IIIa with Elmar, Black Leica III with Summar, Rollieflex V, and a Rollei 35TE for the total of $60. After explaining to the owner what they were. Got a "I knew you were going to buy those as soon as you walked in!"

Nikon I in the garbage does have me beat. I did get a Leica IIIF with lens and case in a Brown Paper Grab Bag...

Well, it's bedtime here, so I'll let you gentlemen and ladies have the fun watching the final moments of the Zunow auction.

So far, nobodies estimate has been made, so all is still possible.

Good luck all ;) I'll be rushing in tomorrow morning to see what it ended up at!

And eh, if anyone of you actually manages to buy it, can we expect shots?

only the silver f/1.5 nokton is discontinued, the black is still in production.

You gotta love ads that say, when describing some flaw in the lens glass:
"This will not affect the picture taking qualities of this lens"
You'd think they'd at least make conditional, as in "This MAY NOT affect" or "This PROBABLY will not affect"...... or even, "This did not SEEM to affect the picture taking quality..."
Frankly, I'd never bid on or buy a lens where the seller said any particular flaw would NOT affect the image quality, though I know in many cases, perhaps even most cases, this is true.

So you are saying that.

Most of the time a seller who states this is speaking the truth.
Yet............100% of the time you choose not to believe them??

I know that I have been that seller who has stated a known blem on a lens. It may be internal dust, a small cleaning mark, or oily blades. I test to see if I can find a noticeable degradation in IQ if no, state so if yes, make clear what the result was.

Is there a better way to describe an imperfect item?

Fred needs spell check. ;)

I find accurate descriptions work far better than vague ones, unless one enjoys answering the inevitable emails that result.

US $2,283 and who is the winner???

Not me. I've wanted one for a while, even though I hear that the performance isn't so great.
