I don't think this subject has been discussed here - for give me if it has - but the Solms modification to the M7 baseplate to make the DX work properly, i.e. the addition of a washer, came back to haunt me the other day. I've discussed it here:

as the issue might be a problem for other people too.

In short, the catch holding the baseplate closed can malfunction unless you get the mod right.

Cheers, Paul.

Do you have an optical DX reader in the M7?

Thanks dovi! Glad you liked the pictures.

peter: I'm not sure it's optical, but on the earlier M7s (of which I think mine is one) there was a problem reading the correct film speed if the canister didn't go in fully. The washer basically pushes the canister in a little further when you turn the latch on the baseplate.

The washer is available from Solms for free. I'm not sure which M7s have this problem, but no doubt someone here has the appropriate serial number range.

Cheers, Paul.

Thanks Paul, good to know! I'll also let pass the word along about your book, I think the softcover is a good idea and an less expensive way of getting a great photography book. Best of luck!
