I was wondering if the title of Avedon's "Homage to Munkacsi" refers to any particular Munkacsi picture or Munkacsi's body of work in general.
It's certainly possible it's based on a specific shot (I haven't seen all of Munkacsi's work), but my guess is that Avedon's shot was a homage to Munkacsi's entire oeuvre, which included many shots of girls leaping & carrying umbrellas, but I don't recall 1 w/1 doing both.

Yep, it directly refers to "The Puddle Jumper" from 1934.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I was never able to make it to the ICP show that included that print.

I was lucky enough to get to the one in NYC. What an incredible talent Munkacsi was!

Yes, it's good that he is starting to get the recognition he is due.
