I just ordered an M6 and a Summilux 35 1.4... We just spent nearly $5,000 on other camera equipment for my small business. I am happy yet very nervous... Just had a major gas attack. :(

It's funny how rarely I've seen the "Significant Other" factor work in the other direction; you've made my day. Congrats on your purchase!

Remember, it's a tool for making money. So, perhaps there's the justification.

Cheers,

Two things - first, wow what a cool gal who - when she blows some dough, blows it on a Leica film RF and Summilux (and I hope you don't take this the wrong way - no offense intended) and not a designer imported handbag or some some such...

Secondly - if the GAS attack blew the budget? You can resell each pretty quickly with minimal depreciation. That is - it's reversable with not too maj a financial hit.

Congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

you could have spent the money for the Leica and lens on something worse.

No offense taken... I just hope he can try to understand it. Sometimes I think he'd prefer me to like handbags over cameras.

What does GAS stand for? I assume it is something like a needy for gear, but I can't get the ackronym.

If your hubby throws a huge fit or you feel that you can run your business on less expensive gear, you always can sell the Leica and lens for about what you paid for it later. It's not so much of a purchase, as transfering liquid assets into a fixed asset.

... hope for him that Leica does not issue a Louis Vuitton M6 special edition .... ;)

I guess I'll be moving to the "waiting for the mail" section now.

... And balance is restored to the universe. Well done. Tell your husband that he can go buy himself some Manolo Blahniks to make up for your camera expenditure. ;) Keep on wearing the pants in the family. That is awesome.

Congratulations. Remember, it's like the stock market (should be.) Buy quality and hang on to it. M6 and 35mm f1.4 is one of the all time greats. Enjoy. Joe

I'd be happy if my wife wanted an M6 and 35/1.4 for an anniversary present.

Ecstatic if she wanted an SP-2005.

One year she asked for an Oscilloscope. She was getting her MS in Engineering.

Get a restraining order before the Leica will be orphaned, please. You must take care of your Leica before everything else, my dear; Is it in the will? Just in case he ....

And there the story hangs in suspense till

ahhhhhhgh

good for you simplethings! enjoy the M. ... hang on. I want my wife to read this thread.

I don't think I could get myself to actually use an SP! I would be ecstatic if my husband even wanted a camera! The only downside is I will have to get better at loading that film. I was pretty impatient with it when I borrowed a friends M. I once asked him if I could trade my wedding band for an M6. It seemed like a great idea at the time. Haha... At any rate, I always felt like he would never have understood the purpose of me getting a "film camera". Yeah, he is one of those guys... ;).

Maybe I should start a "Why your wife should have her M6" thread and use it as support to my argument.

Congrats !

The nice thing about a Leica is that it can be re-converted to cash fairly quickly. Now you can join the rest of us waiting at the window for delivery.

Paul

PS: I tell my wife the Leicas cover for the Harley Davidson I don't have. shhh.

You get used to loading film after a while. At first be patient so you dont put your finger through the shutter curtain.

It is funny to read this going in the other direction. However as everyone is pointing out the cost of ownership is about zero and you've bought a classic combo. Congratulations!

To see a lady falling prey to the Leica lure... is quite refreshing. More when it involves a Summilux 35mm! Congratulations on your purchase! If your husband kills you, he doesn't deserve you. ;)

Bad jokes aside... I think most of the people in the world should have a Leica camera. If there's one machine that brings out people's true selves, that's it. You can tell who's the gearhead, the exhibitionist, the perfectionist, the practical and everything else in between.

And, of couse, go and start that thread. You will get A LOT of support!

Have a nice day!

PS. I hope you paid for a very fast shipping... When I ordered my first Leica I couldn't sleep well until the darn thing came. I was dumb enough not to ask for overnight delivery, even though the shipping was free! Oh, well...

[...] Tell your husband that he can go buy himself some Manolo Blahniks to make up for your camera expenditure.

Good trade; Manolos are very nice shoes. Seriously.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm male, speaking from the perspective of an admirer, not a wearer. But you never know with nice shoes.

Cheers,

Congratulations on the M6 and 35 Summicron, a great combination. Good luck selling the husband on the purchase.

I guess the next question, did hubby buy anything really neat recently? My brother has a standing agreement with his wife, he gets camera gear, she can indulge in her shoe/handbag habit.

I paid for overnight shipping... I figure if I was going to drop that kind of money I might as well get it ASAP. :-)

An M Leica and autonomy - throw in a little Tri-X, what more could anyone want? Enjoy the Leica.

Tell the other 1/2 you saved thousands of dollars by not starting on a track of trading up with purchases of Zorki's, Fed's, etc.

:o)

if your husband's smart, he'll act mad and keep this in his back pocket as a "get out of jail free" card. ;)
