View Full Version : HU: FED S on evilbay, can be had cheap
Hi, I found a FED 50mm f2.0 lens that is supposed to go on a FED S the other day in an evilbay listing.
Today, I asked the seller a question about the lens and he pointed out to me that the camera is on sale in a different auction as well. Only: he listed it as a 1954 built regular FED 1 camera and matched it with another lens, the standard Industar 50mm f3.5.
Be sharp, this might be your chance to be the owner of a truly rare camera and lens, the FED S with FED 50mm f2.0 was made in approx. 2000 examples before the war and never since, it features a 1/1000th top shutter speed.
Item nrs. are:
Lens 260379930855
Camera 250392409114
Although I already own a FED S, I would buy on the spot since this camera and lens look as new. BUT, just today I have shelled out for another lens :bang: and cannot spare the cash for this one.
I'd rather see it end up here, so we all can enjoy the shots

This seller really hacks me off, in honesty. He regularly sells russian gear and clearly doesn't know his models so I hope it doesn't fetch its true value. He posts over-lit, contrasty pictures that make everything look like new. He fails to point out in the auctions that the lenses and bodies were matched and are unlikely to work properly on another body/lens (even if they fit, which is not always the case) and he's destroying the history by separating them, which I find very sad. Rant over...
Unfortunate. Some winner may be thrilled ... or greatly disappointed. For the seller to say that the lens is, "To Fit Camera: Leica, Zorki, Fed L39 Screw Mount Cameras" is very possibly just not true. It might just as likely only "fit" the body it was issued with. I hunted around for one of these a couple of years ago and wound up buying a Summar instead - with no regrets.

And with the nowadays buyer name cloaking evilbay has installed, it's impossible to contact the buyer later on and relieve him from that terrible quality lens.
My hope is that someone from here will buy lens and camera and keep them together! Any takers?
Tempting! must...get...hold...of....myself.....
Im going to have a go.

I mean both, lens as well as camera. Been looking for a spare parts Zorki to finish a rebuilt one. If I win this one my #2 Zorki will be a parts camera.

It’s a doable endeavor. The auctions end 20 minutes apart. Best of luck, ron. Hope you're successful. IMHO, that would be quite a keeper kit. To have the lens alone - pretty nice. But to have the matching body, too? Oh, yeah. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
p.s. ~ The smaller photos, the thumbnail photo and photo below the words “Good Luck” are a totally different camera and definitely NOT the FED described for sale. I’m sure the seller thinks “hey, they all look alike, right?” Hmmmm…

Don't assume that the body and lens were originally matched; they have probably passed through many hands over the years.
I once re-united a Fed S body and Fed 50mm/f2 lens (the lens was in Japan) sold separately on eBay and it turned out the lens had been adjusted for a modern LTM and not for the presumed original body.

The camera is described as a Fed 1 made in 1951 - bet he is selling the camera in the thumbnail and not the Fed S in the large pictures. Every con depends on some degree of larceny in the mark. If I were to bid I'd write the seller and get that little detail straightened out.

Hm. You might be right. I asked the seller about the lens register and he replied it had been fitted to the body, but not that he had shot it or even looked through the RF.
Then again, Yuri at Fedka can definitely get the lens back into specs. I sent him mine and it had been disassembled, turned out one element was in backwards. Full body CLA with new curtains and a lens CLA set me back USD 100 only. Lens only would be USD 40.

I wonder where he gets this bit from (never gets a mention when he sells Leica gear):
This is not just a copy of Leica - some aspects have been improved!!
The RF image is much!! stronger, clearer and more contrasty!
Also, the shutters seem to be more solid and do not get broken so easily and the Leica ones
[this is the opinion of fed/ leica users...]
There is another Fed S with the 50mm f/2 lens on. Buy it now for only $1300.
ONLY $1300 !!!!
Could get 2 of the real thing for that !!
