I'm going away!

At 3:30 AM a limo (you know, just a glorified taxi) will pick me up and take me to the airport... and in some 12 hours, I'll be in San José, Costa Rica.

Nope... not vacations (I don't have time) but rather a kind of "busman holiday": I'm going to teach Spanish for a month to a small group of American students from my university.

Now... let's talk gear: my two Leica M6TTL (proverbial reason: one for color...), my 35/50/90 combo, and my Nikon AF SLR with two zooms. I'll probably take that one to any beach I go... or should I carry the Leica gear?

Also, I'm taking with about 13 rolls of assorted Kodachrome and Ektachrome 200, 11 rolls of Ektachrome 400, and two rolls of K-chrome of 64. In addition to that mix, I'm lugging 5 Scalas.

What do you think? I'm always loading more film than I can shoot... but I sense I'm "underprepared" here.

I'll keep you posted. Next post after today at 3 AM... From Costa Rica!! :)

Ok, good luck! :)

How easy is it to get Kodachrome processed these days? Is it even that commonly available anymore?

Not that common. My supermarket still stocks it, though...

For developing, send it to Dwayne's Photo (P.O. Box 274, 415 South 32nd Street, Parsons KS 67357) in a padded envelope, along with a check for $6.00 (for 24 exps.) or $8.00 (for 36 exps.). They're quicker than the old place in NJ, and they work well.

Good luck Francisco! Sounds like a fun trip.

dmr, I had a couple of shops around here give me back a roll of Kodachrome unprocessed because they couldn't find a lab they could send it to for developing. Disappointing to say the least.

Hi, Joe!

I'll be able to post from Monday through Friday, and mornings only... with some luck! I'm no longer in an office by myself, hence I must share a computer.

The SLR... will be loaded with print film. It comes in handy for promotional purposes.

I may go to a beach once or twice. What would you carry with? RF or SLR?

Thanks. I'm kinda tempted to shoot a few rolls of it before it goes away totally. I've only shot a few rolls of it in my life and that was many years ago.

Must be in the limo now on his way to the islands. I guess if you have to go away to work, and island would be a good place to do it. Hopes for a fun and productive month.

Well, I wishing he has a terrific time.
For myself, I'm glad the NW is cooling back down to normal. 93 for the end of May was WAY to hot for an old desert dog.

Well... I´m here in the small country of Costa Rica, Central America. This Sunday morning I woke up very early, had a nice breakfast of¨"gallo pinto" (rice & beans) and fruit, and then headed out for the streets. This day, being a tad cloudy, seems good for B&W, so I´m carrying a Leica with Scala film.

So far...

Thanks for the good wishes! I´ll try to keep you updated in the weeks to come! :)

Try Rite Aid if they have any stores left in the Cleveland area. As far as I know they use Qualex for sent out film and Qualex is owned by Kodak.
