View Full Version : Forbidden Dee'lights
It occoured to me that my father was Under Secretary for the Uk Air Ministry , responsible for pulling out of Singapore in the early 70s .
Prior to this the Russian threat was , perhaps , closer to home than it may have been for many . I recal that as a 5 year old , a red tie in Dad's office in the Strand , was a no no .
This , I think , prompted this fascination for USSR cameras and optical items , and made the importer shop TOE such an awesome place !
Hence my dee'light in my new Kiev 4a and Leningrad 4 .

I think a lot of things we do are compensations for things we had no acces to in our childhood or could not afford in our younger years.
Myself risen in Romania I now drink hectoliters of Coke and Pepsi and eat tons of chocolate. Things we could not get here those years. Also the first camera I bought was a Praktica, as my father never allowed me to touch his. Then I had a collection of some hundreds of computers, also a thing I could not have as a kid.
Some people laugh about me/us for these actions, but if you look deeper I am sure you will find such irrational behaviour in any persons actions. Just in other domains, the ones where they had some "lapsus" at a point in their lives and try now to compensate. (Compensating with things or material goods is harmless, it is much worse when they try to compensate a sentimental lapsus.)
Or ignore my above BS, it could (maybe in most cases is) that one simply has just fun in this or other things he collect (or simply buy for enjoying/using).
