View Full Version : Pimped my Zorki!

I bought a nicely-working Zorki 1 off a fellow RFF-er a while back, but it was in naked form. Someone, at sometime in its life, had stripped the vulcanite off. I thought it was about time to give it some clothes but I fancied something a little non-standard...what do you think?

Fantastic !
Nothing wrong with pimped FSU cameras :)
It is elegant looking without any bit of trashiness due to the changes made. It shows good taste in how to pimp.
Looks good. Now you should repaint the bike to match.

Thanks for the comments! I didn't want to go overboard but I already have a totally-standard Zorki 1 so I thought the red accent-stripe would set off a "commie camera" suitably....

Sorry, not a chance - it's in far too good a condition to do that! I've only recently got it, it's the insurance-payout replacement for the last one. A not-so-observant soul t-boned that for me on a roundabout after I'd spent many hours rebuilding various parts of it! Bent frame, damaged engine, damaged fairing...the word "gutted" comes to mind but at least I'm still here to ride the replacement.
Looks good! Too tasteful to be truly a "pimped" Zorki, I think.

Anthony,
Nicely done - pimped but restrained ;)
Is that an Aki skin, or home made?

Is it true....that Leitz once made a copy of these?
Dave
I wouldn't do it but I have to admit it has a certain restrained elegance.
It also looks like you have made all the screw slots nicely parallel!

That looks absolutely lovely. It is not only a very competent recovering, but shows very good taste.

John,
It's home-made covering, from a piece of leatherette a friend gave me and glued on with Evo-stik. The camera is the one you sold me - I've run film through and it works beautifully, by the way.
Quite elegant. More bespoke than pimped I think.

Cool one, it reminds me of those glowing lines in the film TRON. :)
I dunno, the gas tank is a little oversized for Zorki.1. ;) IMHO, the larger tanks like that are better suited for the interstate cross-country cruizing Zorki.4's. On my lighter, quicker, speedster Zorki.1's I prefer no more than a gallon or so to run from pub to pub or maybe down a few fireroads. But that's me. Other than that, it's indeed a nice piece of work done well, Mr. wolves. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Not quite period but I use a Sverdlovsk 4 instead. I also have a Weston Master IV but haven't used it much since getting the Sverdlovsk...
