Simply driving up to the Hyatt Regency in Century City that night you knew you were in for a historic night. Police cars lined the streets, people waiting in lines that made Pink's hot dogs on Saturday night look like Bryant Gumbel, an oozing sense of solidarity resonated off of the pavement with every step the people in line took as they inched their way closer to the entrance.

Barack Obama was at the cusp of making world history. It was as if the news channels announced the last number in a billion dollar lottery game and we all were holding the winning ticket. The shouts of joy and tears of accomplishment exploded into the air as groups of people began dancing in celebration as they heard that Obama had clinched the electoral votes. Our new hope and savior, Barack, was now the president-elect.

It was an amazing night and I will never forget it. But not because a black man had been voted into the highest office in the U.S. government or because we weren't getting a third term of Bushonomics, but because I felt a genuine hope for a new future. Not just for me or for U.S. citizens but for the entire human population. It may be a false sense of accomplishment at this point but at least the first step has been taken.

The following photographs were taken in the Crystal Ballroom on Election Day 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
