I have/use Leica versions, and have both the above. I don't like the first one as I don't like the straight sides, seems awkward IMO. The second one listed is the preferred one of choice for me, if I don't have a Leica clip on.

I use #2 on my summicron also w/good results. I
think you will be happy w/either one if just for
protection for your lens.

Thanks. I am so new to M that I didn't know have Leica M usually 39mm thread and have hood fixed normally to thread with these lenses. I know the holes/ vents are for better finder sight and I wonder some original Leica hoods that have not holes.

(I tried editing the topic line of that thread unsuccessfully.) Have you experienced on any magnification lens to a finder? Do this cheapest (?) alternative that job well:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170282994552 (Is this one different than first?)
I find a Leica too: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370121422497
Canoshop which I think is responsible seller in general, says "very good quality"

I think finder magnification best 1:1, when possible. Look discussion:

Many of us use non-vented hoods from dealer heavystar on eBay. Here are two of his offerings:

Mirrored,
To answer your question, your first description is straight,
whereas #2 is slanted. Does not block as much of the viewing
area.
Nelson
The second one you listed is the better one.

dittto.
I have had many of the originals, nice, buy why spend the extra $ when the heavystar is more than adequate.

I see all different will work and nothing obvious wrong any alternative mentioned do not have.
Thus vented open little the view, but have it importance, is personal again.
There was original Leica hood for 35mm. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130270314547 Does it fix different way to the lens?
I think I buy a cheap vented one, but from other Ebay shop than my link. Prize was nicer there and postage too. edit: that seller have sold every hood in meanwhile.. cheapest seems to be just now to buy from Hong Kong, under 9€ total for a very first one hood in my first post. And they come not sold very quickly out, there seems to be 100 piece left. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150308426429
Its strange that from USA to Europe have sometimes postage cost lower than when I buy from Germany to Finland. (Leica hood above 6,90€)
Leica have vented too. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110315221528
