postage cost doesnt show up to me...me not being in the US i suppose (he only ships to US). but i notice he is using UPS next day air delivery, which no doubt is an expensive option

It showed $104 for me....I think it depends on your location. I notice he's only offering next day air with delivery by 10am...the most expensive service UPS offers. It probably does cost almost $100 for that, but why is he only offering that? Ground shipping would cost about $10, which you'd think would get him a sale faster.

I had an experience where one ebay seller wanted US$163 for shipping for a US$200 item.

Why would it cost him that much to ship next day within the lower 48 when KEH can ship to me for less than $50 next day???

Don't beleive what KEH's website tells you on ship rates. I ordered some stuff from them back in August and asked for next day, because their website said it would cost about $50. They called me the next day and said the website doesn't quote the correct shipping rates for next day and the REAL shipping was $150. The rep asked if I wanted to keep next day or switch to ground shipping for $30. I went ground.

Perhaps KEH has worked a bulk-shipping deal with FedEx/UPS?

I had a IIIc shipped next day air by KEH about 2 months ago for $49.95. Ordered it on a Tuesday and had it before noon on Wednesday..

My package was a lot bigger/heavier. It weighed about 10lb and was about 16x20x10 inches. I bought a camera, 3 lenses, and a medium format film back. The website quoted me $50 shipping but they called to say it was $150. Your little Leica body shipped for so little just cause it was small and light. Then again, the ebay guy is selling a similar Leica body....so I guess he is screwing people!

That would explain the high cost of your package. Mine was a camera body only as is the auction that I referred to in my original post..

He's charging double actual shipping cost for what he has.. so yes I'd say he's screwing people..:( :(

The listing is contradictory. He says,
"Item will be shipped Fed EX insured using my discount after funds clear."
But then he lists UPS next day as the only shipping option. I stay away from auctions that have the SLIGHTEST discrepancies...

His rate is $83 to my location. I just checked FedEx (where I have an account) and my price for First Overnight (by 10 am) would be $73. But it drops to $43 for Standard Overnight. He would be overcharging if he shipped by standard for this price. Still... why?

But next question: $380? even for a ST, but without evidence of a reputable CLA recently? And with a beat-up top plate and chipping vulcanite? Hmmm...
