Our Calgary Stampeders pro football team (Canadian Football League) just won the championship. We're still a hockey town, but the football culture here is alive & kicking. At the rally:

The mrs. suggested I go out and take some time for myself so I wandered about downtown in the am:

It was a fun morning getting out there with a camera all by myself - haven't done this for quite some time...

Gorgeous shots, the look of them rival or better film in my opinion so you're doing well. May I ask your conversion process?

I love that last shot ... it's brilliant and in the first pic the eye contact from the girl bottem left is priceless!

Gavin, my process for all the BW images is as follows:
channel mixer, curves, dodge/burn, crop then sharpen if needed (in that order).
I'd like to say that I keep it simple, but in reality that's all I know how to do in PS.

Keith: to be honest I never noticed her until I reviewed the images later at home. It does add a little bit of tension to an otherwise festive noon hour.

The B&W conversions in PS seem to give the most "control" and all other programs (Nik, Imagenomics, etc. ) seem to put a nice GUI around exactly what you've just stated (Channel mixer, curves, levels, etc.).

Nice images from the M8 - I really wish I could use mine more - but I think I'll be selling the baby pretty soon.

Really nice tones from the M8! Looks like tri-x on screen.

I don't know much about PS but what exactly do you mean by channel mixer? Do you employ some kind of strategy while using it or are you just messing around with the sliders until you find something good. Same goes with curves, a strategy or just playing around with each photo individually?

kipkeston: check the mono box at the bottom of the channel mixer settings window then just play with the sliders (channels) to get the image you want. There are also preset settings to be found in the net that try and emulate film tones.

Dave: just not using the M8 enough?
I got rid of both my dslrs, but kept the Nikkor 24 & 35mm primes for when they stick a ff sensor into a D80/90 body... will reevaluate at that time ;)

Nah.. that's not the reason - it's more about why I came back to Rangefinders in the first place back in 2004/5 - I did it because I wanted the film experience and while the M8 is a perfectly capable camera (now that Firmware 2.0 was released and any other issues I had with my cam initially are all worked out) I find that the "experience" is not the same as with the film RFs.. I'm going to try to explain it in a post - probably no one will agree with me but I'm going to try anyway :)
