The silver Hexanon has the same optical formula as the the black paint UC version but without the improved UC multicoating to all the elements. Actually, the silver version is the same optic and coating found in the Hexar AF camera. The silver Hexanon being the most rare will probably be more expensive than the black paint version which usually sells for around a grand. The m Hexanon I would estimate at around $800.

The prices are going up. I'm glad I got my Hexanons in 2006 & 2007.

Like awilder said. The UC, LTM and Hexar AF lens seem to be derived from the classic Nikkor 35/1.8 (see Dante's web site). The LTM is a predecessor to both UC and Hexar AF. The M-Hexanon 35 has a different formula.

From a user's perspective the UC and LTM lens are smaller, the M has shorter minimum focus. All three are great optically.

Best,

Roland.

The silver Hex has the classic scalloped focusing ring ala LTM Canon rf lenses compared to the tabbed black UC version ala Leica M. Very nice ergonomically and quite attractive in the layout and chrome finish.

I paid $1000 for my UC-Hexanon, which seems to be the going rate, though I just saw one sell on eBay for $1200. It's really a beautifully made lens, and makes nice pix.

I've read somewhere that on the AF, because the focus is controled by a chip, "they" could optimize the lens design a step further and completely disregard focus shift.
The lens is therefore better, and the focus shift is electronically corrected.
True?
Urban legend?
Dunno, but really, this lens IS excellent...

How much did you pay I might be so bold to ask?
$948 plus $21 for shipping, matsuiyastore. did i pay too much?
actually, i intended to find a uc-hexanon since its reputation and the bp would match my bp body.
after you said that the silver and the bp both have the same optical formula except coating, the silver one became a choice. the finish doesnt really matter.
