Can anyone say definitively whether the flash that is part of the Hex RF kit, the HX-18W, is compatible with the Leica M7?

The Hexar RF does not support TTL Flash metering, and as such the HX-18W is not a TTL flash -- auto and manual only.

The RF does support available light metering through the lens.

So, if by "compatible" you mean "supports Leica TTL", then "no".

The HX-18W, the Olympus FL-20... separated at birth? You decide. :D

(ironically, the FL-20 does do TTL flash... with Olympus cameras)

I can deal with auto and manual (as I do with the Hex RF), but by compatible I was referring to the electronics. Will the HX-!8W fry the M7 electronics?

Good to know, Tarasi. Now, if someone would chime in with his/her experience on the M7.

My HX-18W works with my M6TTL as well. No TTL of course, just Auto or Manual modes.

Thanks, Justin, that's the kind of answer I was looking for. Guess I'll give it a try on the M7.

No problem Harry. Actually, for the record, it works with my M4-2, M4-P, M6, M6TTL (as mentioned), and even my Bessa R2 and R-D1...

And if anyone wants to know, the Leica SF-20 works with all these as well. TTL mode on that flash only works with the M6TTL.
