I'm wondering how much interest there might be in a service that would provide a film based archive of digital files, on Kodachrome, an E6 slide film or a B&W film, developed to positive or negative. An opportunity has been presented to me for the machinery to do this- in 35mm or 4x5, and I'm curious how many folks might use such a service.

Really? That is very interesting. I don't know that I'd do it for archival purposes, but I sure like the idea of having K64 "versions" of my favorite digital photographs.

I haven't tried it yet, but have bookmarked the service advertised at http://www.gammatech.com. The web site says, "we specialize in converting digital images to film, and film to digital images with the highest quality standards."

I've heard of it being done before, but never really had an interest in it. I think there are a lot of people out there who would try it.

well it's pretty common in schools/ universities that still use slide projectors but want to shoot new images (for the future) in digital. Slide library has a film recorder....

I've used Gammatech and was very pleased with the image quality and their service. I needed to project slides of digitally rendered images in a gallery show.

This turns "digital archiving" on it's head.

I've always thought of digital archiving as an oxymoron.

Yes, this is a film recorder, or two of them actually, one for 45 and one for 35mm. Years ago I had a girlfriend who ran one of these (pre-powerpoint days) for graphics slides, and have wondered why they weren't used more for transferring digital images to a more permanent medium. I'll check out Gammatech- thanks for the link. Just curious how much interest there would be if I find the space...

OK Sepia, I'll bite...you can count on me for a small order, if I can get back uncut Velvia! I would really like to give this a try.

Oh! I'm nowhere near this close- was simply putting out some feelers to see if I should find the space for these machines. :o

Based on the numbers above I'm not going to bother.
