Hello friends,

Just a quick query is it possible to use a barndoor shade with a summar lens? I ask because they are cheaper and easier to find than the summar shade.

The Summars outer diameter is 36mm while the Summitars is larger so no it won't work.

You would need the A36 to E39 step-up ring (SOOGZ). Then you could use pretty much any of the shades for 50mm lenses with E39 front rings.
