Hi all, I was searching the net for a cable release for Leica IIIa, but I am not sure what is compatible.
Some say that its the AR-2 cable Nikon cable release that is compatible with the Leica III. But when I called up one of the local shops here in my country, he said it isn't. So I'm a little confused now.
Need help to verify what to get for my Leica IIIa.
Thanks!

You want this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Leica-Rangefinder-Cable-Release-Adapter-M-I-II-IIIG-New_W0QQitemZ290263203378QQihZ019QQcategoryZ29965Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

Unscrew the shutter surround and screw this in instead, you can also get cables with this 'built-in'.

Yes, all 'collar' style mounts since about WW2 are compatible.

And you can buy adapters (little collars or drums with a conventional socket in the top). Kaiser may still make them.

Cheers,

R.

ok, let me get it right. I need an adapter with a cable release?
So on top of the cable release like this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=310082924371
I will need the adapter as well?

That release will work fine just like it is. You will however have to remove the collar that screws around your cameras shutter button since the release uses those threads to attach.

I am also searching for a cable release, only for a If. These ebay links posted here have already expired, so I am afraid I must bother you all with the same questions again, (;

Does a cable like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/NIKON-AR-2-LEICA-NIKON-OLD-STYLE-CAMERAS-CABLE-RELEASE_W0QQitemZ110284574150QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFi lm_Cameras?hash=item110284574150&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)-- a Nikon AR-2 -- fit the If shutter by itself or does it require an adapter? If an adapter is necessary, will this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Leica-Rangefinder-Cable-Release-Adapter-M-I-II-IIIG-New_W0QQitemZ290303733982QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item290303733982&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) be the proper (for the AR-2 cable w/ the If)?

Thanks!

It's likely that the AR-2 will work. It, or the adapter, is screwed on in place of the shutter button surround. The adapter will take an ordinary ("standard") cable release. That is, you do not need both the AR-1 and the adapter.
