Hello Friends,

Just got my lllb back from Peter it needed a service and the shutter blind replaced due to pinholes:-(. It is like a new camera and Peter was so kind and helpful. He has a bit of a backlog as he is just back from his 1st holiday in 5 years! If you can't do the work yourself it is well worth giving Peter a call.

I sent my M1, one of many eprey tragedies to Peter to rebuilt and repaint and it came back many month later smoother than any Leica I have ever held. The frame counter side was completely smashed in but it came back looking new and with a coat of green paint. Awesome.

Peter at CRR does excellent work. Apart from various CLAs, new blinds, new vulcanite,beam splitters etc he has also serviced current M equipment and turned a box of bits back into a 10xxx Leica I (following removal of barnacles).

Great service and a tremendous attention to detail for ltm,m and Leicaflex but don't expect too much response from emails, if you need him you really have to phone.

He has only ever declined one job...to dismantle and repair a Leicaflex motor...hardly surprising.

I`d like to see some of the vulcanite work he`s done.......while that`s the #1 item that`s always gone astray on the cameras I use/collect the 1940 to 1946 vulcanite is terrible, almost always dry and brittle and ready to fall off any minute.....

(From the 'conversions' thread) This old warhorse (converted I to IIIa) was recovered by CRR with their cheaper version of vulcanite (around £50) whilst it was with Peter for a CLA. The fit and finish are excellent. Look how well the screws match the holes in the vulcanite. I did consider having it recovered with their best match (£100) but felt that it was unnecessary for a camera in this condition. The camera is an ex N Ireland press 'tool' with a checkered but documented history.

Speaking as someone who likes their cameras to show their scars (mostly because I haven't the patience or skill to remove the new ones I make...), that is a real beauty - something that has really worked for its living and become worn but still retained its looks. The new vulcanite sits perfectly with the old black brass finish, without looking like an obvious refurb. Thanks for showing it off!

Nice vulcanite, even if it`s the cheaper version and what a colorful camera, the patina`s lovely, the Summar barrel`s great :)

iI wish I could find a IIIC K Grey in this "wild" of a condition :D

Peter at CRR did a service on my CL - cleaned, lubed, new foam seals and dampers, fixed shutter brake, new take-up spool, adjusted for silver battery. Excellent job, and a very good price - it now works like a dream.

Next time I need a Leica service or repair, I won't look anywhere else.
