There's already a rather healthy thread on this same auction, here (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=899376).

It would be nice if people just used reasonable titles, like "$140K for Salgado's M7 on eBay"

Thanks.
One added thought - Salgado, in addition to being an exceptional photographer dealing with important issues and a singularly decent person, has family members with health problems that are going to require money. I hope he gets/got a lot for the M7 set and that his assignments and print sales bring in good money. No photographer deserves it more.

No. They are strictly non profit and interested in historic preservation.

I would hope so, too, but he seems to pour a lot of the proceeds from his projects into charitable efforts, like his Amazon reforestation project.

are there some sort of underground camera museums that buy this stuff? It's just like those "artist series" electric guitars and basses made by the likes of fender that are copied in such a way to resemble every nick and scratch and patina of the original version then sold with a signed certificate and exorbitant prices.
