I've seen this item listed before. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was intended for military use.

An overall heavy duty case, not for the military, I doubt that it would have been very practical for them to use, I just had one in my hands today and it was a kool gadget, but kinda heavy and bulky for use, not anything the military would use at all

Military issue Leica`s got used in all types of weather, that why the used one`s have the patina they do, buying a special case cost too much money and that`s why these things are uncommon at best, because they didn`t sell well in the first place

Makes sense what you said, Tom. I just figured it might have been used for storage/transport, not for everyday use.
So why Leica would have made something so impractical?

Back when Rollei and Leica were at the top of the food chain, they offered every accessory imaginable to include a very robust, metal tropical case.

By the looks of it, this one did not see much use. I find it amusing that the seller is offering it today for more than twice the price of pristine Leica IIIc or IIIf.
