Industar-50 or Jupiter-8?

I have the possibility of buying one of this lens? What is your advices? I know that the jupiter 8 extra stops, that can be handy! This one is black, and comes with the yellow filter. The other, don't know much about it.

I dont know as much as others on the forum about FSU lenses, but I do know the Industar-50 is very closely related to the Industar-22, Industar-10, and the Fed 50mm/3.5.

I remember coming across a few threads about these lenses when compared to each other, a search or two is bound to pick them up.

Both are good lenses. I have both & I shoot the I-61 more than the J-8. The black late model I-61 I have has click stops & I believe is a little bit sharper than my J-8. Earlier version I-61s don't have the click stops. I would probably get the J-8 if the price is good because I61's are cheap & you can always pick one up later.

The Jupiter-8 is a fine lens. I have the one in Contax-Mount so I don't know about the LTM-Version. The Contax-Mount version at least features click-stops which is practical.

My Industar-50 can delivers fine pictures too but it doesn't have click-stops. Its butt-ugly (this might be the ugliest mass-produced 50mm ever). It's not very practical.

So I'd go for the Jupiter-8

i never tried i 50 but i tried i 22 which is earlier version of that. it is sharper that jupiter 8 but i use j8 more often because of bigger aperture.

If you're talking about the collapsible I-50, well, it will turn your IIIC into a pocket camera, and is a GREAT sharp lens. But if you can only have one, then J8. Just unscrew it and put it in your other pocket. Bam. Still have a pocket camera. But get a collapsible I-50 soon, too. You will love it.

I like both the collapsible I-50 and Jupiter 8 on a three. The collapsible I-50 or I-22 are ideal for pocketability. The Jupiter 8 is better suited for people photography, indoors, with that real nice Sonnar classic signature.

If you use or will want to use filters or a lens hood, they will be much easier to find for the J-8 lens than for the rigid I-50.
I have both (well, all three if you include the collapsible I-50 ) and think either are capable of producing great images.

Industar is a Tessar clone, Jupiter is a Sonnar clone. They produce different character of pictures and both are great. I would choose the cleanest one with less scratches & dust, if you're thinking of image quality.
P.S. J8M has click stops, J8 does not. Likely we are talking about LTM J8 as opposite to Contax mount J8M

I have a I50 from late 60s and a J8 from early 60s, and the J8 is significantly more contrasty at all apertures, and aslo sharper at equal apertures. I don't really use the I50.

I have Industar 50 and Jupiter 8 and I can say that Jupiter 8 is much better than I50. I50 is very fine lens but J8 is sharper and faster.

Sorry for the long delay. First, I want to thank all the people that posted here and your advices and opinions. Second, after reading the posts I decided and bought the jupiter-8, it was in an auction on german ebay, and arrived today!
I payed 30 € for the lens, I don't know if it is a fair price, a overprice or a bargain, to this kind of lens!
The industar-50 is still for sale in a similiar site, but here in portugal, by 15 euros. Other thing is, in the description of the industar the seller says "M42". I wanted a lens to my leica IIIc so m42 is a no lens! And also I thought that jupiter's and industar's were only m39 screw mount, I didn't know that they existed to the M42 cameras!

I've had both Jupiters and Industars, and the only one I regret parting with was a pristine J-8.. William, if you're not using it, I'll take it back! ;)
