Some Shots From The Hip

Or not. All with IIIc and Summaron 3.5cm f/3.5. Using VCII light meter, but confirming sunny 16. Film used Kodak BW400CN

Shot at the Walla Walla County Fair. First three are from the hip. Fourth is of my daughter before she could raise her hand to cover her face!

Not trying to shoot the guys bottom ;)--wanted to catch something from the hip.

I found this lens to be very sharp so far. Alot of fun shooting with a 60 year old camera. I'm impressed.

I just acquired a VC II meter as well, though it doesn't fit the shoe on my early Leicas very well. It's a great little tool!

I'm impressed too, great photos. :)

I'm tempted to say it's a light leak in the second one, but seeing as it's not on any other pictures. Might be that the shutter curtains got caught up on something for a microsecond.

These are not tilted at all for shots from the hip. Mine are always tilted :bang:

A few years ago, the Summaron was a total sleeper. Not many folks thought much of the lens.

On your third shot, either you finger on the shutter release was too close to the spinning shutter dial or the second curtain lagged a bit for some other reason.

The fourth shot shows flare in the upper right from the sun.

When spending a day in full sun with a Barnack hanging from your neck, keep in mind that it has cloth shutter. You may want to use a lens cap or set the lens to near focus when the camera is not in use to protect the shutter curtains.

Like filmfan, I've never got a shot from the hip whose horizontals and verticals were not crazy. The light in the second picture may well be the effect of the shutter dial rubbing against a finger.

When I fire the shutter is the shutter dial supposed to move? I see the counter dial advance when I wind the shutter dial, but no movement when the shutter is fired.
