Hi

since I am going to Tokyo and Taipei soon, I wanted to ask whether anyone knows if there are any second hand camera shops in Taipei and if the prices are somewhat reasonable?

I am especially looking for awkward medium format cameras and perhaps Leica M lenses...

as I've seen quite a few members from Taiwan are here, so I hope for some contributions!

thanks in advance!!

and also, what's the cost of developing slide film? Thanks!

There's a whole shopping district of used camera shops in Taipei. Maybe 20 or so stores!? I can't remember the name of the place but I'm sure one of the local members will provide more details for us.

I would love to know too!

Recently made a trip to Po Ai Road area and found only 3 shops with really humble offerings. Seems like digital age has stormed the country and there's hardly any interest for any of these older film stuff.

Tokyo on the other hand is a real treasure trove!

Cheers,

Deepwhite from Taipei

The famous camera district is called "Bo Han Distrct" (not an official name so please don't ask people where it is). It's an area centered around the crossroad of "Bo-Ai Road" and "Han-Ko Street". There are more than 20 camera stores.

But if you're looking for 2nd hand 135 cameras and lenses, you might be disappointed, since most sellers are in Yahoo Bid Taiwan or www.ruten.com.tw. You can see some Hasselblad or Rolleiflex though.

I heard that Tokyo is a great place to go. Plenty of 2nd hand cameras with reasonable price.

The camera district is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=+25%C2%B0+2%2747.77%22N+121%C2%B030%2740.53%22E&ie=UTF8&ll=25.047561,121.511257&spn=0.00937,0.016093&t=h&z=16

The large square redbrown building nearby is the train station, so it should be easy enough to find.

Not so great prices in Taiwan though...

If you are going to Tokyo, or to any major city in Japan, for that matter, looking around Taipei will just be a waste of time...

But there is a fantastic ice cream place not too far from the "camera district". Menu in Chinese, English, and Japanese. It is kitty corner to the Zhongshan Hall (Sun Yat-sen Hall), Address: Wuchang Street Section 1 No. 65. They not only make their own ice cream, but have a number of flavors unique to Taiwan.
