Hello All,

I have a pre-ASPH(4th?) Summilux-M 50/1.4 with "crooked" name ring. I guess that I could send it to get it pulled out and installed correctly but if it is not too hard to get it repaired by myself, I want to give it a try.

You can see the gap in the red circle in the picture which is attached to this post.

I believe that the name ring is "screwed in" but I do not know how and what tool I should use to get it out.... Because of this, I cannot install any filter all the way in - a filter would screw in about the 1/2 of the way then it hits the name ring....

Can anyone tell me how I can remove the name ring from Summilux-M 50/1.4 and get it re-installed?

Thank you.

Generally a rubber stopper of the correct diameter is used to unscrew it... But I'd be worried that the threads might be damaged.

For rings like this a cylinder of rubber is best. Be sure that it doesn't touch the glass, press on it from top and rotate to unscrew.

When I don't have a suitable rubber block, I use a piece of bike tube for adhesion and a large enough hex socket wrench or similar thing...

cosmonot & Spyderman, thanks for the info!
So my guess was right that the name ring is in fact screwed on but "cross-threaded" somehow - maybe from previous repair(!!!)
I now have to look for a rubber cylinder with ~42mm diameter..... hmmm... Maybe I should visit HomeDepot and see if they have a rubber hose with that size!@#$#$%
