Just picked up a Nikon LS-1000 35mm film scanner ca. 1995 and was wondering if it is worth getting to run. I will have to purchase a SCSI card for my computer and download the appropriate software to run on XP. I only paid $2.00 for it and like the compact size of it. Any suggestions?

Well, like anything else photographic, it probably needs a CLA. The optics get dirty and the lubrication fails.
Old scanners (like me) are really testy creatures. :>)
It's a longshot but go to the Nikon website and follow the instructions for the LS-2000 and Coolscan III - you may actually get it running if you follow the intructions regarding the ASPI layer to the letter. This assumes you're running XP. If this is the case you'll need a specific adaptec scsi card and some software from the adaptec site.
Then it will sit there and blink and then you'll KNOW it needs the CLA.
Good luck!
