Hi to all!
I'm novice here and novice in RF cameras.
How much can cost Leica m3 in good condition?
Thank you!

i understand what a CLA will cost and that it will probably need one. but when is the last time you saw an M3 sell for $300?
i was just pointing out that your estimate is pretty unrealistic.

i'll criticize myself...
yes, there are M3s that have sold on ebay for $300, but they are project cameras, not working cameras. reasonably clean and working M3s seem to start at around $500 and go up from there.

Bob,

E-bay isn´t the only game in town, and I never paid more than $300 for a Leica M3DS.

Patience is a virtue! LOL

i didn't actually mean to start an argument, i just thought your estimate was unrealistic.

How's $255-?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280242944504&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018

It's works beautifully, the RF patch is a bit dim, but it works.

i only criticized the post above because he claimed a DS M3 in EX condition would go for $300. a user camera with a dim rf patch is not EX.

Thanks to all for the answers!!!
I search at ebay.com and can't find M3 for the $300. I saw M3 DS $$500-600 and higher.
Special thanks to bob338 (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/member.php?u=10215) for this link: http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/mmount.htm
A lot of information for the beginner, like me.))

Look at those M5 prices!

Let's say that I saw a M5 for significantly less on a fair two weeks ago. Covering was ugly but that's not too hard to fix. RF & mechanics appeared ok, no idea about the meter.

I would say $300 is a touch low. My benchmark are prices at www.keh.com, and ebay.

look, i think the above link is fairly accurate on the US$ prices for leica cameras. they are even more expensive here in australia. occasionally, you get lucky...

i've been looking for a user condition m3 or m4 in the last 16 months and keep reading these stories of garage sale finds of super rare minty leicas in the US and old widows trading in their husbands camera gear in eastern europe, etc.
just when i thought i 'd give up and pay what everyone is paying, a deal came in ebay. i was a bit reluctant since the seller has only 1 positive feedback, but he included his phone number and i had lots of questions for him. happy with his honest answers and
with two clicks of the mouse and my fingers crossed, the DS m3 (with 3 lenses, caps, external 35mm finder) was in my posession in 3 days for only AU$700. i was ecstatic, working smoothly with excellent lenses. it seems as though it hasn't missed a beat. i will probably get it serviced after a burn a hundred rolls or so but so far so good. best of luck with your hunt...

The trouble with an M3 with a faint finder for $300.00 is that it may respond to having the prism cleaned or it may need resilvering. There's no rangefinder parts for these things around any more and to my knowledge the only place in the world that resilvers the finder prisms charges close to $400.00 ... or that was the case when I enquired a year or so ago. Not to mention the three month wait!

I think you're going to be hard pressed to find a beater M3 for $300. let alone a nice one.

Ronald_H

My user M2 was 380 EUROS and it need a CLA because the shutter was way off. It's not a beater, it's just cleary well used (wear on the strap lugs, meter scratches on the top plate).

I'd buy any M3 that (barely) works for 300$, frankly.

You got a good deal - because the seller was in Canada and went on a rant concerning a question pertaining to paypal. Here was his response to the paypal question. It's entertaining, if nothing else.

"Hi Sorry, But NO I do not accept PAYPAL. Too Expensive, with too many hoops for sellers to jump through. with so FEW ebayer's being/having a CONFIRMED paypal account, it offers NEXT to ZERO protection for sellers. Until Paypal makes CONFIRMED (eligible for seller protection) accounts mandatory for buyers worldwide. I'm just not willing to accept it, as a reliable payment source. Paypal has a two stage qualification process. Most all paypal accounts are VERIFIED. Meaning the ebay/banking details matches the information supplied via your email address. BUT is NOT backed up by a credit card. So NOT eligible for seller protection against payment issues. A CONFIRMED paypal account is Credit card backed ,meaning the bidder is the same as the authorized card holder. ONLY those type of paypal accounts offer the "touted ebay seller protection" BUT only USA /CANADA & UK are eligible for the confirmed rating. There by ELIMINATING the rest of the world as qualified PAYPAL buyers. To my thinking it's not fair. Either all have to be CONFIRMED or paypal MUST offer coverage to all sellers no matter to whom or WHERE they sell . Learned this the HARD WAY lost payment, lost item. So till ebay/paypal fixes the discrepancy between protecting buyers at the expense sellers. NO PAYPAL. All I want is a even paying field. Cheers douglas "

You know what after having a friend of mine ripped off by an eBay purchaser doing a credit card cancellation and never sending back the Hasselblad . Then having to deal with a dishonest eBay buyer myself- I feel his pain.
