Hello,

I would like to try Rodinal with TRI-X. I've been reading some articles on the net, but I found opposite statements about Rodinal.
I'm sure I'll get the correct answer to two questions I have here.

Which gives more grain 1+25 or 1+50 ?
Is it true to use a least 10ml per film ?

Thanx !
Henk

1+25 gives more grain; no, you don't need 10ml per film. I routinely get good results with 4.5ml per film (9ml Rodinal, 450ml water for 1:50). Rodinal 1+100 stand process gives me good results, too, with 3ml solution and 300ml water for one roll.

I believe that the way you inverse is very influencing in having grain or not with Rodinal.
For Tri-x less grain I would choose 1:50 and a 5 sec slow inversion every minute, at massivedev chart time ( starting with a 30 sec. slow inversion).

Yeah- gentle on the agitation will show less grain; I do 1st 30 secs, then 2 or 3 inversions per minute, for less than 5 seconds. 1:50 (or 1+50) does show smaller grain than 1:25, as Borghesia suggests.

Tri-X is good.
Grain is good.
Tri-X in Rodinal is great.
Less agitation with Rodinal is better.
Learn to love the grain.
Learn to love the sharpness of Rodinal.

Otherwise, pick another film+developer combination.

Earl knows.

...The key with Rodinal is to dial way back on agitation compared to other developers and the "standard" (who made it a standard, and when, anyway?) of agitating every 60 or 30 seconds.

Thanx for the replies.
I loooove grain, so i'll start experimenting 1+25, gentle agitation.

This is Rodinal 1+50 with 3 inversion per minute, this image is cropped also. There is grain but about the same with HC-110h, well a little more. If you want to see a larger image click below.
