I cant believe it's been 5 years since I first started RFF. Day one was 2 or 3 members including Joe and a Solaris 8 server at home connected to the internet via DSL. I remember staying up late every night just watching the number of users on line and wondering if they liked the site. I saw a pattern where users where on line at a certain time of the day and the site was quiet during the evening for me. Well, things are a lot different today with well over 25,000 members and users on line 24 x 7 from all over the world! I guess you liked it :)

I started RFF because of my passion for those little cameras which I consider to be industrial jewelry and my desire to exchange ideas and comments with others that felt the same. Now RFF is the leading internet site for rangefinder cameras and it could not have been possible without the members. Thank you all very much for contributing to this great site and making it what it is today. And many thanks to Mr. Gandy for continuing to keep the lights on at RFF. So, a big happy birthday to RFF and all of us here.

Ahh, the good old days.

We all had Canonets and Electros, nobody had Leicas.

The Cameraquest site was the store house of information.

Just think, we are now old enough to start Kindergarten.

It's the only forum I visit all day every day. Congratulations and Happy Birthday. It's a great service to the photo community in general, not just users of rangefinders.

Yes, Happy Birthday, Congratulations, and thanks for starting this site and keeping it up. It's also on my daily list. :)

I honestly thought it was older than 2003. I stumbled on the site in 2005 and my impression was that it had been around into the last century.

Happy Birthday! Like every child RFF has grown up and now on its own. It attracts good people I must say.

So glad this forum is still going very strong, it's the best. No equal. Today happens to be 3 years that I have been here. There are other sites and forums that I have gone to in the past five years but I spend 98% of the time here, the others just do not have the great people that frequent RFF! May it prosper and flourish, thanks JT and thanks SG. :) :)

Happy birthday to RFF. Thanks so much Jorge and Mr. Gandy! I frequent the site often, more than any other. I also recommend it to those I think would benifit from it and be a benefit to it.

A great site. Imagine, five years of great comradrie and information.

amazing!
5 years!

i remember it like it was yesterday. the time has simply sped by way too fast.
i think i was member number 11 and jorge asked me to moderate on day 2 or so. i asked what would i have to do and he gave me the keys to the place and told me to play it by ear.
it's been a hell of a ride since.

congrats to you jorge for starting the site and thanks to stephen for the continued support.

A very happy birthday. RFF was one of the reasons to get a Kiev, a Zorki and an Electro.

And, last but not least, a book with pictures taken with rangefinders :-)

Way too much buying and selling over the past 5 years.:o

Nah, that was half the fun.

I still remember Rover telling me on the rff chatroom-testroom that "leicas are not for him", hehe, do you remember that, Rover?
i guess you will deny it even if you remember it:D

that was somewhere around 2004 i think

we all were mostly about fixed lens rangefinders back then.
i had a coat rack that must have had a dozen of them hanging on it!

at one time i had 5 or 6 oly rc cameras, all in working condition.

Then I sat down, did some math, realized that if I sold everything....

A lot of what I buy now is still part of that same stack of DINK (dual income no kids) "investment." I just have to sell so I can buy some thing different.

I would say I was right to a point too. I do miss my Bessa R, and I am thinking of selling the M6 I bought with that first big sale, because I prefer other cameras to it.

But the M2 and M3 are staying.

Five years since I posted on a "What's your favorite film" thread, with Joe, Jorge and an older gentleman who could talk about Leicas in the 50s...

BTW, Jorge, I'm Francisco. :) Member No. 12... and proud of it! ;)

Time really flies when you're having fun... And to think that if I started here 5 years ago, and I already "knew" Ralph and Joe from the PopPhoto forum... We've been at this for some time!

Fun, lots of fun still... :)

Happy Birthday RFF. And thanks, Jorge, for starting this forum.

i asked what would i have to do and he gave me the keys to the place and told me to play it by ear.
And you and the other moderators have been doing a great job since.

I am a refugee from PN, and came to this site because it was a place where I could find got discussion and information on the R-D1, generally unaccompanied by the snide and derisive comments which were prevalent there. Who would have thought that exposure to this site would have led me buying old Canon lenses? But then again, it is the combination of intelligent discussion of past, present and future...
But I'm making it sound so serious and boring. I come for the jokes too.

Last but not least, has been the way RFF has led to my meeting other rangefinder photographers both from Toronto, and RFF members visiting here.

So Happy Birthday, and many happy returns!

Well done to everybody who has been involved with the site - it has certainly had an effect upon me. I started out with a fixed lens Yashica, now I have two Leica IIIf's, an Olympus XA and a Bessa R3A to play with. If it had not been for RFF I may have succumbed to the dreaded DSLR thing - I was certainly thinking about it because I rather stupidly thought that film was dead!:eek::eek:

Hi Jorge,

I am sure you have sweated and perhaps even suffered in creating RFF. But you have achieved something of deep value, human value, not just a website.

My humble thanks,
Ruben

like in one response earlier, I also thought RFF must have been around since the dawn of Internet, when I found it 2006. perhaps this first imression came because subject was "old film cameras", as I then thought of it (while being proud of my first dSLR) :o

its been educating and fun to follow up discussions here. thanks Jorge, Joe, Stephen, Rover and others involved :)

Jorge, hope its not only FF Nikons nowadays ? ;)

Hello Jorge,

My sincere thanks for the gift to all of us. And yes, you have robbed my employer a bit also. It's OK, I feel robbed of a personal life sometimes. It all evens out.

I'm a relative newcomer (10 months), but I feel compelled to logon daily. I consider fellow members my friends-- I've met several local members face to face. This is the most fascinating website I've found.

I found the site after I saw Noctilux photos on Flickr. Now I've acquired a couple of Canon rf's with 50mm 0.95, Barnack Leica, and finally an M6. Still can't afford a Noctilux. (Too bad I didn't discover this site before the recession kicked in-- prices were much better then.)

It's not only the technical talk I enjoy. Discussion often turns to politics/religion/pop culture. Sometimes the moderators are a little heavy handed. I don't mean to complain, but offer it as constructive criticism. Lighten up a bit. We're big boys. It's only talk.

Anyhoo, thanks Jorge. Thanks for paying the bills, Stephen (I tried to buy a LTM to M adapter from you-- out of stock.) Thanks to the moderators for their hard work. Happy Birthday RFF!

Jarski,

yes. I have been shooting mainly FF digital Nikon lately. How about you ? I have seen you somewhere else lately :) However, The MP travels with me everywhere I go. Sometimes I use it sometimes I don't. But, one thing for sure, a rangefinder camera is in a class of its own and no fancy dslr can take away the pleasure of shooting such small cameras with such great optics. Hope they keep making them and hope RFF stays around as a beacon to those RF camera geeks.
