View Full Version : How much did you pay for your used M8?
Since I'm probably never going afford buying this camera new from store, I was wondering what the price range is for used M8's and maybe lenses too.

Hi,
I've seen used M8's go sell on Ebay for anything from around £1500+ I've just seen a used M8 with a 28mm go for £2000 (US, so add another 30% for customs etc). I bought an ex-demo for £2300 with a 2 year passport, which I don't think was a bad deal (i wish i'd tried to negotiate, though).
I'm not going to buy one right now, I'm just trying to follow the prices. I actually saw one today listed for AU$1075 at eBay. It's probably still going up since there are two days still left for bidding.

Quite a few M8's come up on ebay, but quite a few of them seem to have been bought for 'my father in law's 70'th birthday' etc. The one which I just saw go for £2000 with the lens, had the caveat ' I don't know too much about these things....' A phrase which normally rings alarm bells with me.....

I bought a used M8 for € 2700,- a few months back.
You can find a used or demo M8 for € 3000,- on ebay or forums.

I paid $3500 for a late model SN in chrome. Very different from the early SN model I had purchased last year. The newer one has a much quieter shutter and smoother shutter release. I also noticed much better highlights (the earlier one had routine clipping issues).
How can you tell wether the item someone is selling at ebay is early or late model?
I saw one go for just over $3200.00 US on Australian eBay a while ago ... very cheap and it looked to be immaculate!

There are several M8s for sale on the RFF buy/sell forum, that gives you a pretty good indication of price as rarely will you find equipment cheaper than right here. With less than 5,000 clicks (which means it is just getting broken in) in "excellent" condition the prices seem to be $3,500 - $3,700 depending on what is included (boxes, a case, extra batteries, etc).
O.C.
Even with M8, does 5000 shots wear out the camera?
It wasn't long ago that it was hard to find one under $4k, now I've seen them offered for $3,600 with no takers. But it can be difficult to get buyers to part with cash money in a tough economy.

The best advice I can give you is DO NOT buy any M8 without a warranty!!! IMHO, the best deal on a used M8 out there is to get a refurb (one-year factory warranty instead of two). My second choice (used) would be to get a reliable in-store warranty.
Look here (refurb):

Don't see why it would. 5K shots is nothing.

Or perhaps the market for M8's is just saturated, now.
I don't think that,
more and more people like me discovers the advantages of the M8,
it's not quite digital it's some thing special,
but not everybody is able to buy one for about 4000-5000 €
Some photographers would be happy to get a M8 for about 3000 - 3500 € in a good condition.
I won't buy on in US or "offshore" it'll be too far away,
(I'm from Germany),
so only a not far away M8 would be be my choice.
Fortunately now I have a new one :-)
Well, the Seller pulled the plug on this one!
I guess she's got cold feet...

Paid USD 4000. Camera, extra battery, that fancy Italian leather cover, real IR filter.

€2500 - "includes Leica M8, Voigtlander Nokton 40mm F/1.4 S.C. & 2 Gb Trancend 150X SD-Card" just sold in the classifieds.
I'd say keep watching - the prices have been dropping quite markedly recently, and you often see them hanging around unsold for a long while, so keep a sharp eye on the classifieds and something may come up! Especially depending on what rumors begin emerging from photokina, which might make some owners a bit itchy...
Good luck anyway!

With two spare Leica-brand batteries and a couple of UV/IR filters. Bought off eBay - very straightforward transaction.
