New Elmar, V2 Cron, & Canon F1.2

I enjoy the 50mm field of view. Now I have a third lens to use (not counting my 90 Cron), to compliment my 5cm Rigid Summicron, and Canon F1.2 lenses. Something extremely portable and usuable/likeable (Elmar), something relatively speedy, like the look ( 5cm V2 Cron), and something super-speedy with unique OOF character (Canon F1.2).

Hey, if I do the "O-Ring" trick on the barrel, I can even use this on my new M-5:

What do you think of the F2.8 Elmar?

There's plenty of elmar threads from those who love it. Google or search.

I dream of one too, but have too many 50 mm lenses now.

More importantly, the advantage of the elmar- its compactness- isn't as great as I thought when compared to my 35 IV cron, and it's one stop slower.

In Leicaland, I'm happiest with slow lenses: Summaron 35 (f/2.8), Elmar 50 (f/2.8), and Elmar 90 (f/4). The Elmar 50 is remarkably heavy for its size, and built like a tank. I love the thing! In collapsed state on the M body, it slips into a coat pocket - not a quality shared by the 'cron 35.

That's exactly why, I am taking a chance, and buying this really minty Elmar (from 1960, I believe). Combination of the build quality/matches my M2 in age/handling perfectly (I hope!). I've seen enough good things done with this to give it a go. Collapsing on the M2 (NOT the M5!) will also be a plus for me.

Memphis, I also love my Canon F1.2, especially now that I took it apart, and cleaned out the haze in the rear elements. It has a great "look" through it, and I -like- the paper-thin DOF. I think that's really cool. :cool: Should be a good match to the M-5, especially shooting inside, which is where I'll be mainly using the M-5. Outside, I'll probably stick to the M-2. I don't need a meter most of the time, shooting outside, especially with my XX film.
